Does amboyna burl need to be stabilized? I've never used it before but, I'm getting a chunk from ebay. I know you can go either way with thuya, which I've used a few times in the past. I always just go ahead and stabilize it, just to be sure but, I don't know about amboyna.

I don't know if it "has" to be stabilized, but that's the only way I've ever used it. It certainly is beautiful wood.:D

I had some large pieces that weren't stabilized and it cracked in short order before I could get it sent off to be stabilized. It shipped across country from the coast to up north in the dead (very dry) of winter. I have plenty now but I'll get any future pieces stabilized quickly.
