I picked up 4 pieces of this awesome wood last weekend. The man I got it from told me it was Teak, but others told me it was Amboynia burl. I dont care what they call it, the stuff is gorgeous! Call it petrified camel dung for all I care. I want more of it. These pieces are slabs about 4" x 6" and about a half inch thick. I dont see the usual voids and holes that are common with most burls; that's what made me buy this stuff.

Danbo: Yes, that looks like Amboyna burl. It's supposedly one of the rarest woods in the world. I've used it perhaps 15 times.
It's not that durable, being soft, and is prone to cracking out at the thong hole. but, it's PRETTY
My advice, have Jim from Wild Woods stabilize it for you after it's thoroughly aged. It will help it stand up as a handle.

Stay Sharp,

Teak, I wishit was teak. Teak is a whole heck of alot cheaper then Amboyna. But Amboyna it is, no doubt. The only other wood that might come close would be Thula Burl, but with the complete lack of any eye patterns, my vote is Amboyna.

If you got that gorgeous wood at teak prices, you got a heck of a deal! Getting it stabilized is very good advice. Can't wait to see what you do with it.:)
