AmeraGrip uses a Nitrile Rubber and FR4 (fire resistant) grade of G10. They have a few more layers of Fiberglass prepeg between the rubber layers, so it's a bit lighter weight, stiffer and I find it works a bit better than SureTouch. SureTouch has either a 1x1 ratio or 2x1 ratio of fiberglass to rubber layers. I tried to use the 2x1 stuff when I could since the colors were a bit nicer. Since AmeraGrip has more fiberglass layers, the colors stay truer and don't darken as much as the SureTouch colors from the rubber. I found the colors are more vibrant with the AmeraGrip and it seems to work a bit better and isn't as mushy feeling. I used to not like G10 because of the hard feeling, so I used SureTouch a lot until AmeraGrip was announced. I have buffed AmeraGrip where th SureTouch stuff doesn't buff (mostly due to the ratio of fiberglass to rubber, the rubber doesn't buff).
I made the first knife for Current Composites with AmeraGrip; the granddaughter of Current Composite lives in my town and dropped off the first set of scales and I got some other of their prototype stuff a few weeks later to use, too. They were using more fiberglass layers in the first few pieces I used (prototype material) and I made several knives for them for their employees to use and test so they could see how the material held up, worked and felt. They have tweaked the recipe a touch based on feedback, and I like it a LOT better than SureTouch. Much better feel than regular G10 in the hand; it has a softer/warmer feel to it, but not squishy feeling. I haven't tried it myself, but people had trouble cnc machining SureTouch supposedly, not sure how the AmeraGrip is since I don't have a mill/cnc to play with.
You can see the differences here:
SureTouch Orange:
Top knife is the 2x2 stuff, bottom knife is the 1x1 stuff SureTouch:
Orange AmeraGrip:
AmeraGrip still has plenty of rubber to be grippy and cushiony, too.
When working either, you need to use light pressure. If you push too hard, the rubber will compress and you will feel the ridges of fiberglass against the rubber since it will undercut the rubber slightly (the slight bulge gets ground off and then is recessed when the pressure is released). AmeraGrip does this less and it's a bit easier to get a smoother feel between the layers.
