Good for Buck. I did not know about the 2009 American Commitment they started. Good job Buck.

For those of us with weak eyes, can you describe what that commitment is?

Doesn't apply to the Selkirk line, I guess.

This is consistent with the comment Chuck made to me in 2008. That he was bringing more of Buck's product line to be mfg. in the U.S.. I just went thru Buck's 2016 catalog and counted all products. The total came out of mfg. items 121 are made in the U.S. and 31 out sourced. This count does not include 8 sharpening items offered, a coffee cup and water bottle U.S. made. With 1 sharpener, caps, a towel and jackets made off shore. I've seen a couple other knife models offered on the river of the off shore variety.
So, of the 154 mfg. items offered in their latest catalog, 78.57% are made in the U.S. and 21.43% made off shore. That's less that 1/3 of their mfg. items. DM

So, using the 50% figure from the article it's easy to see Buck has made a effort to mfg. more items at home and reduce out sourced items. By the way while touring the plant I met Nanci in the break room. A nice lady. DM

David - I am faintly whispering in your ear right now - 78.5% + 31.5% is 110%.

Ok, guys it's algebra. Our counting of items is 154 which is 100% of our total. So, our percents are worked off that. Thus, 154 and 121 & 31 are worked out of that into percentages. Hence, 121divided by 154%= 78.57%
33divided by 154%= 21.43% Woops, I'll change the second number...DM

Ok, ged that should look better. Thanks, DM
P.S.
My point still stands. That Buck has kept their word and brought home manufactured items by over 28% since 2008.

That's awesome. Not every knife company has done that. In act some reversed it.

Buck is an American company and I hope they will always be able to make their products in the USA. That means, of course, people have to buy their products. I have a Buck in my cart now.
