Hi everybody, first post here (since now I've only read... and learnt a lot;)).

BTW, here is why I started this thread:
http://www.americankami.com/axe.html
These axes are surely attractive, at least to me:D, but their G10 handle construction doesn't seem particularly strong...
Since I've never seen one of them in person I'd like to know from their owners if they are effective, usable or only interesting pieces of steel and plastics.:D
Show me your experience.:)

Yep, I know that a forged hawk fitted on a wood handle is far better, but I'd like to know something more about these particular "tools".

Thanks.;)

Welcome , You have some awesome stuff ... been looking at you stuff for a while.

:D Maybe you've misunderstood me... or I misunderstand your post... I know nothing about American Kami products except what I see and read on that site...

I haven't used one but I have worked with some chisel grind cutting tools and knives. I assume a chisel grind would be fine for weapon purposes but I question how well it would perform for camp chores. I too would be interested to hear how they work in the field because they are certainly intriguing designs.

he seems to really be a cool guy and he backs his gear.

that's a good sign for sure.

G10 is pretty heavy though - i am wondering what the weights are on his goodies.

i reckon they are high.

an ounce per inch is what a hawker wants.

otherwise he's an axe man.

The thing that stands out is how the handle is bolted on. In this case you will get dead stoppage in many instances of cutting. In an extreme event, instead of having your hawk blade guide your momentum forward it will all be placed on one half of the handle where the blade is installed and will possibly shear the tool part from the handle. There are lots of new tools designed like this but that's because its easier to make, not because its a better design.

On the upside, I clicked on Vectors website, plenty of fine looking classic hawks there with modern handles, looks good

Sorry cant tell you anything. Have never handled one. Pretty wild looking stuff !
