This is LE with CPM S30V 0.15" thick

Once again I realize that higher price tag on Microtech is due to higher quality and more complicated construction then competitors knives.

Like lock is made different - short bar on little axis and with real spring - not just bended liner. It looks stronger because it is hard to imagine this bar being bend under pressure.

Also it is bit more comfortable and sounds great!

Other thing I noticed - very thin edge, 4-5 times thiner then other knives have. This is good for cutting and sharpening and requie accurate heat treatment, as I understand.

Because of fine edge and fine tip I use Microtech mini SOCOM as "surgical EDC" - time to time I need to deal with splinters or other kind of things like this and I realize the need for really sharp and delicate blade. So I carry SOCOM for this reason and never use it for regular cutting (I have other nives as an regular EDC). I was impressed to see same fine edge and delicacy on Amphibian which is bigger knife. I think overall higher price is reasonable and is not due to hype or something.

Thanks, Vassili.

I like the looks of that piece very much.

The clip looks very well thought out: that little bend near the top would appear to clinch just below your pocket or waist seam, keeping the knife more secure.

I also like the way the edge is sharpened right to the very end of the heel of the blade, so a sharpening stone can sharpen the entire edge, without bumping into a tang extension.

One question, Vassili: What is that little bar under the end of the clip, and the little screw on the handle edge, beside it? It looks like an adjustable pad, for clip tightness. Is that right?

Under the end of the clip is one end of the lock bar and that screw is as I understand lock axis. The reason why it came out of the scale I assume constructional - easy to put it ther this way. I doubt it is for adjustment - spring hidden between scale and lock bar pretty strong, I doubt that tightening this little screw will make effect. Sorry I will not try, it is too small so I afraid I may damage it.

Thanks, Vassili.

Two of my all time favorite users are a Microtech Socom Elite (full sized) and my beloved Amphibian. Both use the Microbar lock and the locks have never failed, even under some hard use (battoning the Socom through some 2x4s). The Amphibian just loves to slice with that thin ground recurve blade. A couple years ago I bought an all black Tactical LE version of the Socom Elite to keep in reserve. Your Amphibian is the perfect mate to it. I think Microtech's fit & finish is at the top of the food chain for production knives. The only production stuff in teh same league IMHO is Chris Reeves, but with Microtech, there's so many different designs to choose from.

That is Sweeeeet. Thanks for sharing.

Nice photo's of one of my favorites. Great close ups and comparison shots. I dig your particular model with the "Claw" logo and plain edge.

I looked around forever trying to get that one or any plain edge version but couldn't find a good deal. Ended up with a half serrated blade. Atleast Microtech puts the Best serration on thier blades.

Good pics and thanks for posting.

Great photos, Vassili! The claw-logo version looks great. I have a standard logo version, transparent black coating over stonewash. These things cut like nobody's business and they have that "high-end" solid feel. I hope they start making them again.
