is there a better blade steel available for the American Lawman besides aus-8?

Not unless you're willing to have a custom blade made or go all-out and buy a custom knife from Andrew Demko.

IIRC there was a member who made a nice 154CM blade for his lawman recently...that was a pretty awesome mod.

EDIT: Here you Go!

I've owned an AL for about a year and a half now. The AUS8 they use has a nice heat treat on it. It does a nice job.

how do you get a custom from Demko, I figured he wasn't making knives no more

Really? It seems like someone posts a new thread about the custom-made Demko knife they just received every few months. Are you sure he's not making knives anymore?

Want to try out a Cold Steel. The Lawman as a matter of fact. But for some reason I just cant or havent pulled the trigger on one! Is it worth what they charge for them? Like others here havent been very impressed with Aus 8!

The consensus among posters who actually have one is that it is definitely worth the money.

Mine gets equal pocket time with a Griptilian and an Endura 4 if that tells you anything...

I've been unimpressed with Cold Steel in the past, but I've got to admit that the Lawman is definitely worth the money. Mine is extremely well built and I don't regret buying it one bit.

IMO the Lawman is a great value. I have just a few minor gripes:

1. Very stiff pocket clip + textured G10 = mean jean eating machine (can be fixed by user)
2. Fatty Boombalatty! The knife is rather thick
3. Thumbstud is nothing but a slotted setscrew  cheesey
4. The TriAd lockbar has greater travel and a stronger spring than traditional lockbacks. The system provides extra lockup strength... but it also means the tang's cam must do more work in order to swing the lockbar fully open. That extra cam displacement + stronger spring = more drag during opening. And when it locks it tends to snap loudly (mine does anyway)
5. More pertinent to the thread topic :o it's only available in AUS8. I'd like to see a 2nd option for more abrasive cutting.

He's definitely still making knives. He's just not taking new orders until he clears out his backlog of orders a bit.
