What will you use the knife for? EDC? Hard-use? Food prep? Another what-the-heck knife?

Folks over at the Cold Steel subforum will also be able to help out. :)

Gonna be totally honest here, the main use will be to carry it around for the purpose of carrying it around.
The more practical option would be the Lawman then. Comes in a more compact package and it’s got a finger choil for ultra-precision knifey work. 3.5” of S35VN should be more than enough for everyday tasks.

Recon 1 XL for showing off your alpha chad testosterone-saturated masculinity.

Glad you like it. I’m fond of my XL clip point too. Smooth deployment and manageable lock disengagement. Satisfyingly sharp out of the box too.

Saw your other thread by the way. If you’re really into XLs, then you might enjoy the XL Recon 1 over the Lawman. Happy hunting, partner. :)

You speak truth.

What would you use the XL for? It's too big to carry around and use in public. Usually if I'm going larger than 3.7 inches I prefer a fixed blade.

Yeah, those are two totally different knives. :D

The Lawman is a midsize EDC knife, slim and strong and a good size for most everyday tasks. The Recon XL is a massive knife, right in line with Cold Steel's other mega-folders. (Also discontinued AFAIK -- where are you finding them for sale?)

For fun factor, I'd say the Recon XL. I've never owned one, but I own several jumbo CS knives and they're a hoot. For an EDC knife, personally I prefer the Ultimate Hunter to the Lawman, but lots of folks love the Lawman and I can see why.

Have/had them both. For utility value, you can't beat the Lawman when comparing the two. There is too much blade and too little handle on the Recon for me, so it went back. With the Lawman, the shorter blade and the handful of handle makes it a keeper that I still have in my work knife rotation after several years. (My Lawman is in 8Cr etc. it is so old!)

Also, as mentioned above, the blade shape is really useful on the AL, where (for me) the Recon is just another long blade.
