I currently use the American lawman with the new steel and really like it. I'm thinking of getting a recon tanto with the new steel which size is closer to the American lawman ? Thanks for any help in advance.
 
Recon 1 is actually much bigger than lawman, but if you like lawman, you will like recon 1 too.

Here is a youtube video comparison between lawman vs recon 1 vs ak47. These are older version with aus8a steel however, and the lawman in the video is still using the thicker g-10, but it should give you a pretty good idea on the size difference:

The Recon 1 is my favorite Cold Steel folder and it replaced the Lawman for me.
 
I've got both, and as you say, CTS-XHP is a fabulous steel. The Lawman, being smaller, is easier to carry in a pocket; I'm making a belt sheath for my Recon 1 (spearpoint). The Tri-Ad lock is great!
 
I owned a Lawman and got rid of it. Too small for large folder tasks, and too large for small folder tasks. I love my normal sized Recon 1 tanto, as well as the spear and clip points, and the mini recon 1 is a joy to edc
 
I like the lawman a size. I'm just trying to decide if the recon mini is to small or if the normal sized recon is to big. Thank you for all your help

Get a code 4. Available in the same blade steel and shapes as the recon1 but with a 3.5 inch blade. Also then youre not getting another all black knife. Just a suggestion.
