Good evening folks(at least here);
Im thinking about buying AL which i think is a very sleek looking beast of a folder.Reminds me of higher end stuff but need to remove the coating:D
My first question is do al's come with nylon washers or nylon+bronze ones?Because my recon 1 have nylon washers and my friends recon 1 have bronze+nylon.

Next question is after removing the coating,do you guys feel any blade play or to eliminaate the play tighten the pivot more? I saw a guy who have that issue on this forum.Lots of guys did it,just 1 guy complaint about it Maybe its because of AL is not a very fast opening knife to begin with so no one care about it?
Wanna know if it effects the pivot tightness to have the no play.I just stripped of a small area where washers contact on my recon 1 and it feells like i need to tighten more to get the zero play stage. Can mirror polishing effect it in a positive way?

God ,so much ''?'' 's:D

If I recall correctly, my lawman had Bronze washers, not nylon. Mine was the older version with steel liners.

I didn't have any blade play issues after taking it apart and stripping the coating.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback monk good to hear about no play.Yeah the steel lined verisons have bronze washers but newest g10 ones have them too imo,but let the other guys chime in too

My mini lawman had nylon washers, for whatever that might be worth

I bought it 10/16/2010 on the exchange. I'm not sure if there's an old version, but it is one with a triad lock.

My steel liner Lawman had no blade play after I removed the coating. Either did my Recon 1.

You shouldnt see any blade play. As for the washers, I believe they changed, as currently the newer recon 1's I have bought have come with teflon and bronze on both sides

Thanks for the replies guys.Seems like no one had a problem about blade play. And res1cue thanks for feedback, i think its gonna be same with american lawman but im gonna try to inspect at store if i can.
Edit:typo

I bought an American Lawman last month. Stripped the finish with chemical stripper and some steel wool. It had both teflon and brass washers and did not develop blade play when I re-assembled it.

Thanks poco and knives look great on that pic.
Do you remember which stripper do you used?I heard that some of them doenst work well and im guessing steel wool was 0000 grit.

My new mini lawman came with both teflon and brass washers. I traded for a "new" triad clip point Recon1, that did have some side to side play. The previous owner "scraped" the coating off, so I completly disassembled and polished the blade. There is still some play though as I can't adjust it fully out....oh well I guess.

Aceton and a little "work" did it for me.

Rubber gloves, Zip Strip, #3 coarse steel wool, Q-tips and a couple of toothpicks got it done for me.

Used the Q-tips to apply a heavy coat of the stripper, let it set for a bit and then used the steel wool to remove the softened finish. The point of the round toothpick helped remove the finish right at seam formed at the ricasso and the primary grind. Use just enough pressure on the steel wool to scrape off the finish but not scratch the blade.

It only took about 15 minutes to complete.

Sad that you have blade play, and acetone huh? :D I wonder if cs have different types of teflon coating out there cus you say acetone worked for me and some says a bad ass chemical paint stripper didnt effect it after 24 hours lol
But maybe the ''work'' was not that little :D
