 Wow! A dealer stowed a 2005 CRKT catalogue with my order the other day. On the back of the cat, in small print, was the notice that "we will be introducing our CRKT USA line in 2005."

I thought "What an idea, American made CRKTs!" And I email my dealer for more info. He sent me pics of two models--the Vodoo and the Wild Weasel, both say Crawford Design and USA on the blades. Both with 154CM and 6061 alum handles.:D

Has anybody else heard of these and when they might make their appearance. The line forms to the right:D

I seeee, insider information:eek:. Well then I will join in some wishful thinking with you. Let's just think reeaaaal hard...M16USAM16USAM16USA...and maybe it shall come to pass. :D I shall include it in my prayers tonight.

And, GB, what steel and handle configuration will you be wishing for in this M16 USA???:D

Here's CRKT's "What's New" page -- http://www.crkt.com/whatsnew.html

The Voodoo and Wild Weasel are made in USA because they are assisted openers.

While CRKT has achieved an enviable reputation for quality with our manufacturing partners in Taiwan, U.S. federal law requires that assisted opening knives be made in the U.S.A. This reality caused us to find an eager domestic manufacturer with a new, state-of-the-art plant. First production runs of the Voodoo confirm that it achieves every benchmark we set.

Have you seen the Carson M16 Titanium series? -- http://www.crkt.com/m16titan.html

Mazel Tov;)

Thanks for the info! That M16 Ti series is classy. How 'bout that Big Dog?
That assisted opener law is odd...I wonder why...??? and what the legislative history of that is.
P.S. I love the photos of the guys of the NJKCA and their blades.

Now the price for those two seems more justifiable. Made in America. 154cm. I don't recall those being the specs last time I heard about these.
still hate their look, though...

Maybe the made in USA law relates to them being a kind of auto. I hate to think so ... :( But how about that? A bad law working to our advantage for a change. :)

I can't say I follow. Do any states even consider these autos? I just assumed not because they are okay in CA and our knife laws blow.

Maybe I ought to post this in the laws section for clarification. Esav, do you know the source of this quote? I'm thinking ( it's difficult) there might be a law prohibiting the importation of autos or assisted autos.

There have been issues with some state's calling them autos although they don't meet the legal definition. I'm thinking Indiana may have been one?

The quote I posted came from the CRKT website.

State law has nothing to do with importing knives. That's federal jurisdiction. I don't know about the law itself but CRKT may be deliberately overinterpreting it to avoid falling afoul of an eager prosecutor later.

I think Esav has got it right, especially after what happened to them a few years back. Customs seized entire shipments of CRKT knives because they were 'gravity knives'. They got them back but not without a lot of effort.
