I just got an email from KnifeCenter.com featuring a couple of nice muskrats by John Primble. Both were said to be made in the USA.

I read earlier here that most, if not all, John Primble knives were made in China. These knives are marked "Maysville, KY" and "USA".

Thanks

John

I noticed they're advertised as "stainless steel", but which stainless steel is not disclosed.

The Maysville Ky ones, are American made. I beleive Utica made the knives for them.

I'm pretty sure there were some John Primble marked knives that were made by Bluegrass Cutlery

If you should come across an old Primble/ Belknap Hardware knife let me know. I have a canceled Belknap stock certificate you can have to put with it. As for the new ones, sorry I am no help

Those look like Utica to me....if so they are 420 SS. You can go to Utica's web site to see a similar muskrat with jigged delrin handles that is their standard KUTMASTER marked knife.

In recent years (since the 1980's) Primble knives have been made by Queen, Camillus, Utica and foreign (China) manufacturers.

I have a 3-spring Primble whittler marked "Manchester OH", but the box says China.

The 2 Muskrats are v highly priced for China-made slippies.

Could the website be incorrect? I mean, wrong image with description?

If these truly are Maysville marked knives they would be old stock from the late 80's to mid 90's. As I said earlier these are USA knives made before Bluegrass Cutlery had the license. I beleive all Maysville marked knives were made by Utica.

Be careful with John Primbles marked with the Maysville, KY tangstamp, everyone I have handled was pretty poorly made.

Ed, I have a John Primble 2 bladed Barlow marked John Primble Belnap Inc. with John Primble Finest Steel etched on the clip master. It is a mint knife with a few old age spots and crack and chip free brown saw cut scale covers. I will gift you to go with your certificate if you want it send me your address in a PM...:D
