Are any made here in the States anymore? I was looking at a Schrade pen knife that I can keep in my pocket for work, but made in China :grumpy:

Any suggestions on something made here, doesn't cost a fortune, stag/bone scale and closed length 2" to about 2 3/4" ish?

Thanks ...

Kerry

I personally wont use one, but it like them, and its patriotic.

Case makes several small patterns that would work for you including a pen knife, but my favorite is the mini-copperhead like this one in this photo:

It's 3-1/8" closed with Wharncliffe main blade and a pen secondary on the oppositie end (a pen knife configuration). It's quickly becoming my favorite small pocketknife for everyday tasks. The secondary blade is just 1-5/8" long from bolster to tip. It's a very pocket friendly design with no blade shoulders to catch your clothing.

If you truly want a pen knife, I'd suggest a vintage CASE 6201. Search that auction site until you find one in the condition/price you want.

A Case 6233 is bone handled 2-blade pen in the $30 something range(5233 for stag). I own a brown jigged derlin 6244 and it is super for under $30, and their 2-blade peanut with two springs is a small jack that I like even more(I have a red bone version). Thay also make all of these in yellow both stainless and carbon steel-both very user friendly.:)

If you want a perfect stainless pen in black saw cut derlin, red or grey diamond wood, go for the Buck 309-it's a 2 blade pen that I have carried since the 70's.

I have been eyeing this one up for years and have yet to get one. I will wait till they are long gone. That way I can kick myself for not getting one when I could. I don't like kicking myself. But I have gotten so use to it.

Also the Eisenhower is basically a pen knife. And this one is stag you asked for.

Here is a nice one I like and half the price of the stag. But it is backordered right now from SHC

You might also want to check out the small stockman. About the size of some pen knives.

Also a Peanut is close in size but has blades on same end.

Some thoughts:

Case peanut
Case Pocket Hunter
Case Tiny Trapper

It's not got bone or stag handles, I know, but the Buck 309 is a heck of a great pen knife. Good luck with your search, and let us know what you come up with.

I have to agree with Mark, the Buck 309 is a great pen knife. You'll have to compromise on the bone scales, but you get a small knife built like a tank. The 300 series Buck's are very good value for the dollar.

Carl,

Wish we were in duck blind with a little sleet falling and you could be smoking your pipe. I would see a bull Can coming low from your side. I wouldn't say anything and just jump up and dump him in the decoys with my old Greener double 12. I think we would laugh and then admire the big sloping bill and dark red head. And think back to the times when they shot'em by the dozens and shipped them in barrels to the fancy eatin' joints in Baltimore......I can read and dream anyway.....
Oh and heres pic of 309s. 300Bucks/ch

On left is the old Cami made Buck, you can still find on bay watch. The 2nd sawcut is from the 90's and the escutcheon was made upside down. Not a mistake that was worth anything just odd. The three new ones are 09.

This is the 309 that gets to live in my wooden cigar box of carry knives on my dresser. Stag in, sawcut delrin scale out. Good epoxy. And the blade is stamped 88, which makes it a 425M steel.

The BUCK 309 is most certainly a very credible Pen (that stag handled job must be a rare bird, looks very nice) Strongly and well-made. I've got the sawcut delrin-given to me by a fellow member-and the yellow delrin which I like a lot. BUCK make a fine yellow one!

It's a pity the OP confines himself to only US made knives. Böker Germany make a nice Pen and the Rough Rider Mini Copperhead is really alright in bone and single spring.

Sooo, let's talk stag. Is the Buck custom shop an option for the OP, for a stag 309?

Heck, if so I may even be interested. I've always been a prime grade A sucker for stag.

And you're welcome in any duck blind I may be in. There's still a family member or two down on the Choptank with river front property. And if a waterman has property, there's a duck/goose blind somewhere on it.

That 309 is a 300Bucks custom. The Buck custom shop only does 110s and Alpha's. Several Buck handler folks would do one if someone wanted. Bay watch has one once in a while that was factory made back in the early 2000s.

I am a mangler not a pro. I used a piece of Axis deer antler from my nephew in TX who can get them off his lease. I have two elk shin bones drying, hanging in tree in the backyard. May try my hand at jigging when they are ready.....

Carl, I am getting lazy, my decoys were dry all last year.

Schrade USA 104OT, 706UH or 708 still fairly easy to obtain.
Case _233 smallest I can handle. 01 & 27 too small.
Prefer Eisenhower size.

Check Queen for USA pens. No. 42 cherry delrin shown.

Bear & son and Boker USA have some in their lineups.

On Friday for $24.50 tax and all I picked up a US made Buck Lancer w/ black/gray laminated scales. But for one of the pins sticking up a little higer than I like, I think it's perfect for EDC, at least for my tastes. I'll either fix it or check w/ cust svc @ Buck and see if they can fix it. At 2 5/8" long it's nearly the identical size of my most favorite EDC which is a German made Boker pen knife w/ stag scales. I can highly recommend either knife as both are high quality.

Lovely Queen; how long is it? Single spring?

Speaking of Queen, I recently found a Queen #5 with what I think is brown bone scales that would also fit into what the original poster is looking for. It's approx 2 1/2" closed and was priced at $45. They also make the same pattern w/ immitation stag delrin scales. It's an equal end knife and reminds me of a scaled down Eisenhower.
