High guys

I read all the time that spydies are a great tool, good steal... last a good long while!

But are any of them made in America? I'm just that kinda person that leans toward our shores!

Thanks

Quite of the models are made in the states. The military and the native for example are made stateside. Anything with cpm steels are made stateside i think.

What difference does it make where they are made? Spyderco is a good AMERICAN company.

Made in the USA:

Native FRN (S30V)
Military
Vesuvius
Chinook
Gunting
Lil Temperance

Upcoming USA-made clipits:

ATR
Dodo

i matters to me. i plan to buy the FRN native over the other native models for this reason. but i agree - spyderco is a great company run by great americans.

When i see stuff stamped Japan, I think Pearl harbor
When i see stuff stamped China, I think Communist... and that one riot in a square if i remember correctly

German engineering, I work on/around foriegn cars, and they may be more high tech... but they dont run as long for the money.

I like stuff done here, keeps a job on our shores :D

Hi, Hotrod, I would like to point out that there was not 'one riot in a square'. It is a suppression of protestors in a square.
:grumpy:

Well, since I can see you're a well-informed citizen of the world... ;)

Supression of protestors... with tanks, live fire?

I'm a Christian, what goes on over there to be a Christian makes me sick to my stomach, protesting for freedom... I wont have any part in funding against it

Hi, Hotrod, there may be some misunderstanding between us - when I mentioned 'protestors', I actually mean (peaceful) protestors who were pleading for democracy and freedom in this country.

Rocks Vs Tanks - I don't think the protestors had any rocks to throw against the supressors (the armed forces). They were not prepared for such cruelty.

A 'riot' is what the Chinese Government (yes, I am Chinese) wanted us to believe that the protestors were mob who broke the law and order of the country, but everyone of us who sat in front of the television just do not buy it.

I would like to inform you that I am also a Christian and I wear black plain T-shirt on every 4th of June, since 1989 !

I think we're straying from the original question. American made Spydercos. I tend to be learning towards Hotrods line of thinking. I say this as someone who is about to lose his job of 16 years because his plant is moving to Mexico. No more spydies for me for a while.

Hey, Hotrod, at least we have the same point of view.:)

BTW, one of my EDC is a Native (the other one is a CQC-7), a nice, sharp knife made in U.S.A.

gotta fess up. i ended up with a Native III instead of the made in USA Native II b/c new graham didnt have any PE in stock. still wish i could have gotten the USA model (with S30V) but im sure ill like the III.

Whether a Spyderco is made in Seki or Golden, CO, it is still Spyderco's high quality that makes it a worthy investment. I just buy the models I like, whatever the place of manufacture. Seki has a history of many centuries as a center for cutlery manufacture.

It's sad that there are still a lot of people in the U.S. that blame all Japanese people for Pearl Harbor (I am Japanese- American), as if all members of the race are a monolithic, evil "horde". I bet most if not all the makers of the Clipits in Seki were even born post-WWII. What is the saying?..."Judge not, lest ye be judged..."

By the way, my GOlden-made Military is of perfect fit/finish.

Do I blame the people... no.

Do I think that a majority of the buisness over sea's is government subsidized... yes!

My background comes from working around cars... you just dont buy chinese/japanese made sockets! Broken knuckles arent fun... and if your paying a shade less... I'd rather not nurse a sore hand for 2 weeks then to not buy American!

Hmmm...as much as I try to focus on a good product, the reason I chose the Military over the Calypso full size was the fact that it was made within our own shores-that will always be the deciding factor in my decisions between products of similar quality/ergonomics.
I'm glad I lucked out, as my two favorite Spydercos are the (American made) Military & CPMS30V Native.

Spyderco controls the manufacturing of our products regardless of where they are made. It is our "name" that assures you of first rate materials and craftsmenship. We do our own tsting and QC.

Try to keep in mind that we are all but tiny drops of life stuck on the side of a round rock whirling through space. We are all one people...connected. Let's not blame our ancestors or governments for their failings. It is our responsibility to make it a better world.

We are here to share information and a passion for knives. "Quality is the product of a good attitude", where ever it may be.

An opened and forgiving mind is a trait to be proud of, where ever you may be.

sorry for the rant.

Very well said Sal.
Striving to buy only American made products is an honorable endevor for all Americans to be sure. However, it gets more and more difficult to find such products and there is no garranty that you are buying better quality. We drive Chevy Trucks that are made in Mexico and Honda cars that are made in Ohio. It's my money and this American needs to get the most out of it. Besides, life is too short to worry about such nonsense. Buy the best that you can afford or you'll loose the chance to know what it's like to own and use such quality.
