I'm somewhat new to the world of axes, and I noticed those two brands sell Hickory wood axes for about 32$. Does anyone have info on either brand? Are their tools well-made, etc?

for the money i'd try to find a good used Collins or Kelly or Plumb.:D
most of the vintage axes were heat treated correctly and will last a very long time with use.

I'm not entirely sure I'm getting a wood axe. I know a lot of people dislike fiberglass, but I've never had any issues.

I've got a few of the Ames TTs and I've never had a problem with 'em. I actually prefer their fiberglass handles. Mine are older and US made. I believe they've went offshore since I got 'em though, so not sure if quality went down any.

Hmm. Well there's really no other way to find out then finding out yourself. I guess I should consider purchasing from them.

I have a True Temper single bit ax that I bought about 10 years ago. It works well for the tasks that it was designed for. The only issue I had was that it took me a while to find one with a good handle. Most of the handles were true but cross grained.

Maybe I should just get fiberglass then... Hmm...

I like the hickory handle on my ax because; it is warm, it is lightweight, and it does not transmit shock when chopping wood. I've heard that fiberglass handles are more durable, colder, and transmit shock more than a good hickory handle. Maybe others who have had an opportunity to use both will chime in.
