Amherst cutlery?

I just found out about this company and I'm a bit curious to hear more about it. I dug up an older thread with a lot of bad noise going back and forth concerning some of the owner's actions. I'm not really interested in the politics behind the company, more just the quality of their products. They seem expensive, but are they worth it? They sure seem nice in the dealer photos I have seen floating around on the web. Are they worth investigating or should I steer clear? I'm hoping the more knowledgeable among you might be able to help me out. Thanks!

They were banned from the site and there were (and continue to be) some serious questions raised regarding the veracity of statements concerning the manufacture of the knives. We'll leave it at that for this forum.
