has anyone trained in the amok knife fighting systems and what dose anyone think of this system thanking you in advance for your apinions.

Yeh, I would like to hear anyone sharing their first hand experience with AMOK methods. The website looks rather interesting, but I have never seen either Mr, Sotis or any of his student in motion (not even on video), or at least not that I am aware of.

I have trained with Tom Sotis and one of his instructors, Rafael Majoica. The system is based on Pekiti Tersia and Tom's considerable real world experience. Tom is one of the best instructors out there, and his seminars are outstanding-totally combatives based, with no ritual or sport aspects to the art. Find one of his instructors, or attend a seminar with Tom for more information.

Greetings Eveyone
Thanks Chicago for the post although i must said that AMOK! is not base on Pekiti Tirsia. I believe that other than Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje and the dog eaters, Prof. Sotis is the only one that has the whole Pekiti knife system but he has choosen not to teach it. Im sure that his training with Grand Tuhon has influence AMOK! but is not based on Pekiti.

Rafael,
Sorry for the confusion on my part-I know Tom studied Pekiti under Leo Gaje but also other systems as well-can you elaborate for us?

I have taken several seminars with Tom Sotis and spoke with him a few times.

A few things:

He is an articulate, intelligent teacher of his art.
He speaks with conviction and seems like an honorable man.
He moves with authority and skill and has a lot of experience upon which to base it off of.
Mr. Sotis and his group take bladecraft and personal defense VERY seriously and approach it with a professional air, not that of a casual hobby or pastime.

He is one of the scariest knifers that I have ever crossed (training) blades with.

Oh and don't let him do that little tap/slap down thing he does on your arm. He has some very "heavy" hands and it can literally take you off of your feet. :D

Greetings

Prof Sotis has trained in various arts like kuntao, Kali, Escrima, Silat, Kempo ect.. not to mention his experience as a bounty hunter, bodyguard, kickboxing champion.

I've trained with an AMOK instructor and have seen a little of the system. It's a great system, and I've stolen a bit of it for myself.

I can confirm that AMOK seems not to look quite like anything, instead being influenced by a number of systems, and it also seems to change and evolve regularly as people bring ideas into the system.

I agree with Joe since we have a lot of people from different countries and various walks of life.
