The Himalayan Imports Forum and Cantina

Meeting via this medium, some truly remarkable human beings, generous and spontaneous in their generosity, as well as intelligent and with a breadth and depth of knowledge that still rocks me on my heels.

That Bill Martino has no more pain and Rusty no more apprehensions.

That the surgeries, treatments, rehabilitations, and efforts of and for the folks who frequent this place, and the loved ones they mention in need, seem to be going in positive directions.

That my kids are ok, albeit with warped senses of humor.

That those I know who have gone over there, have come back intact.

That the newer folks in the Cantina are of the quality they seem to be, and that they can teach me more about skills, crafts, and how to live life.

That even in direct opposition with one another, the folks who visit here use courtesy, respect, and tolerance in their on-going discussions.

That Yangdu, and BirGorkha, seem to be doing well, with on-going business, and new experiments in blade shape, while maintaining a customer service attitude which is exemplar.

That a good friend is fighting his own demons and beating them, day-by-day, without fan-fare or chest-beating.

That other friends, gone now, were in my life and gave me the opportunities to "spend" the time, the currency of my life, with them.

That I've had the opportunities to have lived in the remarkable period of time over the past 60 years, and have shared in moments of profound personal meaning to me.

Thanks.
Be well and safe.

A day for giving thanks,
And eating too much food;
America the bountiful,
from origins so rude,
Has grown to be so powerful,
Our children's toys are banks.

But we here will remember this,
As long as time remains,
Our families around us,
And all our rightful gains:
Feel sorry for the other folk,
Who think prosperity is just a joke.

Not for earth-shaking wars
Or satellites the globe around,
Our power's formed for only this:
My daughter's cheerful, loving kiss.

Ya'll make it hard for the rest of us slobs to be profound.

I'm glad to be here...glad to have met you folks.

Thankful for list:

Cordless screwdrivers
Decaffeinated coffee

Electric heating pads that go under your sheets.
My mama

Christmas presents, giving and receiving
Bread pudding

I am thankful for all the above and especially my wife Anne. Partner, friend, confidant and fellow traveler.

She is better than I deserve and I give great thanks that she can put up with me.

I am thankful that our soldiers are spreading liberty. And that GB is our president.
I am thankful the hurricanes have stopped or will soon...maybe.
Thankful my family survived them.
Thankful for the health of my wife and daughter.
For the south, hot summers, mild winters, and the prettiest women, period.

I am thankful that I still have my job after a year of razing the grain around here.
I am thankful for the opportunity to look for a better job, or rather any other job.
I am thankful for my wife's success at her job and her work ethic, which takes lots of pressure off of me over here.

Not leastly...I am thankful I found this forum, where I have been welcomed, and can learn from a staggering base of knowledge. And for khuks, new to me, and perfectly suited for what I've used knives for my entire life.

Ya'll make it hard for the rest of us slobs to be profound.>>>>>>> Nasty, speaking of Kismet.

Yah, he does that every once in awhile. Makes it look easy too, like, 'I coulda anytime I wanna."

I for one would rather have Rusty back with all his apprehensions than nought; but when did the Universe every poise itself listening to my requests?

As it is, I'm a fine one for continueing the long held tradition of apprehensions. Apprehensions are my friends. (or something like that) The truth is one can always get moving, or hide under the covers, and apprehensions will still be there either way.

I'm thankful for the forum and the friends, and family and the wild things still left in our America.

I'm thankful my littlest guy says Grace only after verifying everyone's eyes are truly closed in 'respect'.

Stuff I'm thankful for:

This Cantina and all who visit it. The friends I have made here amaze me everyday. The brotherhood, the compassion, the goodwill, and..oh yeah, the Khuks. I can honestly say that I have never met as good a group of people anywhere in all my life. Not in a church, not in a frat, not in a bar (although the bar was the closest out of the three). Seriously, thank you guys. You make me want to be a better person.

Mrs. Martino piloting HI to even greater heights while still offering that HI customer service that we all admire. She is one tough, but wonderful lady. I'm thanksful to know her. Not for the great deals. Those don't really matter (but are appreciated), but just to know that people like her are still out there.

I'm sad at the passing of two of this forum's founders. However, their love and their spirit live on with us and in us. I'm thankful that so many men and women have taken their lessons to heart and try their best to be the best humans they can.

I'm thankful for our troops doing the best they can with what they've got in the situation they are in. I'm proud to know that my generation, the one that was supposed to stumble and fall and drag the country down has the courage to stand up, sign up, and do a job that many are too afraid to do (myself included). Thank you, all that have served and are serving. I'm one proud American to know y'all.

Most importantly, I'm thankful for my new wife who was my old fiance' who was my highschool sweetheart. She's doing a wonderful job putting up this 175lb 8 year old. I'm thankful that I could be so blessed and just flat out lucky to have as wonderful of a woman as I do. She makes me laugh everyday. She warms my heart with her compassion (something I sometimes lack). She keeps me focused on the import things that really matter. I'm thankful to be a home owner and to have our families (that will show up) together for our very first Thanksgiving as man and wife in our own house. I'm thankful for the chance to start new traditions that bring together my mother and her fiance with my mother and father-in-law. 'Tis a small house, but is filling up with happy memories quickly.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving.

Old friends, new friends, family, home, the song of birds as they greet the morning, the sighing of the wind as it makes the tree limbs dance and beckon, the yipping of coyotes on a moonlit ridge, the smell of coffe brewing mingled with the wood smoke of a campfire, the surge of excitement as you feel a tug on your fishing line. Simple things like that.

I'm also thankful to live in the greatest country on earth. Grateful to have had the privilege to serve it, thankful for the men and women who continue to do so.
