Amount of pressure to cut through kydex or leather sheath?

If you put a knife in a sheath. Be it kydex or leather... how much pressure would it take to cut through the sheath? Just wondering if this ever happens with quality sheaths. And, for academic purposes, how much pressure actually required before it pops through.

A quality sheath would not allow the knife to cut through it. The sheath should be designed in such a way that the blade cannot cut it while sheathed.

If you made a sheath yourself and just couldn't figure out how to properly make a sheath, you could always put a strip of the material in the area where the edge might meet the sheath. An easy way to see a good sheath would be a clear plastic mora sheath. See how the blade is still a good distance from the inside of the sheath?

I use 0.093" kydex, you'd have to beat the knife with a hammer or baton to get it to go through the kydex. My kydex sheaths grip the knife tightly on the handle, the blade hardly touches inside the sheath.

With leather, it depends on the quality and thickness of the material used. A poorly designed leather sheath, made from poor quality leather, is dangerous. I have a scar on my hip from where a very thin sheath offered zero resistance to a blade going right through it, after being properly inserted. However, a quality leather sheath can be very tough and last forever, but it requires care and maintenance.

Kydex, in my experience, is safer and more durable than leather.
