since im new and was not into higher end knives when the amphibian came out- i was just now reading some reviews and noticed the absence of reviews for the amphibian in the work- horse category. i am looking at the socom elite, sere 2000 and emerson specwar along with my amphibian. I do realize that favorite knife is a very personal thing and subject to how it is used and how you like a knife to look and feel. For me personally the amphibian is head and shoulders above a lot of knives that get mentioned on a regular basis. especially the asthetics+ usefullness combination

So the purpose of this thread is to hear some of the reasons the amphibian hasn`t gotten/ or didn`t get the attention that I would have thought it would-not for arguments sake but to learn what folks look for in a knife- a user

thanks in advance for opinions

Since I love Microtech knives, the Amphibian is one of thier knives that I wanted mostly because I really like the overall looks of this knive. I wound up getting a used green handled combo edge, not my favorite blade type. Like the other Microtech knives I have, the fit and finish was up to par. The lockup was fine, the blade centered in the handle nicely.

The knive isn't that large but the wide blade does make it look bigger, a problem for people with sheeple problems. The recurve blade is a problem for some to sharpen which could also have turned some off. Price may have been another factor that turns some off.
I had to wait until the right deal came along and as I said, had to settle for the CE blade.

I can't say how well the blade cuts because I got the knife, played with it a while and put it away in my knife roll.

I think the Amphibian looks awesome, and I bet that wide blade slices great. I would love one, but when they were in production I was into knives yet, and I don't think I was old even to purchase one at the time either way, I'm not sure when they were produced though. I don't see any on ebay, I haven't tried other sources for them recently, mainly because I'm a college student with hardly any money, I can't waste it on knives. Though just for my interests, an amphibian review would be neat.

Edited for grammar

I purchased my amphibian from a forum member(got a great deal) also in combo edge, i was even considering trading for plain edge-talked to folks at microtech and found out that they will clean and resharpen for ten bucks, also have done a little research and feel that sharpening serrations might not be such a nightmare-I have also decided that the placement of serrations on the recurve blade make it a very useful cutter. Fit and finish on mine near perfect(newbie opinion). The lock up is solid as a rock-I have no fear of lock failure but do respect that its possible. As for sheeple-I think i have decided not to try and please people that try so hard to be unhappy-most of the time its an attack on you and not what you have-"politically correct" is destroying this country-but thats another topic. :D - I relly like the handle as it fits my medium hand very well-could see how a large hand may not like. thanks for your perspective

I have one, they are a great blade, rugged and comfortable to use.
The slim frame makes them easy to carry in pants pockets.

I used my amphibian as a work knife for a while, and it really shined. It held a good edge and sliced through manila rope with ease. The lock is very strong, and I trust it as much as I could trust any quality lock.
