Well, I just got my mt amphibian today and must say it's everything I had expected and more. I've been carring a mini socom for qiute a few months now and could never find fault in it. It seems the most logical kniofe to compare the amphibian to is the commander. Well, for handle commfort, they are near equalBut the mt feels more secure. But that's where the eqality seems to end. The mt has a thicker blade, what I feel is probaly a much stronger lock, and significantly more cuvature to the design. The one thing that gave me a little trouble at first was the opinning device. I found it best to get under it, as opposed off the side. This knife may be my new favorite, and I highly recommend handling one if you have a chance. I'll even go as far to say the microtech exceeds spyderco, emerson, and bm in fit, finish design (most the time). I am not experienced with qc on their end though. -perhaps a weak point. All in all, they're worth the extra few buck in my opinion.

Did you get an auto or manual? Can you post a link to where you got it if it is a manual? I am thinking of getting one.

Thanks,
P

I actually found it on ebay. It's manual. -There may still be an all black manual on there if you look. -good luck.

I've got a MT Amphibian that I like a lot too. (Auto) I don't think I would say it exceeds the quality of the upper end BM & Spyderco but it certainly equals them.

Great knives!

I've got one, and it's certainly a good solid knife. It came unbelievably sharp. When was yours made - is it from of the original run or the later ones with the grip tape inserts and the proprietary screws?

I'm 01/2002. Rubber inserts and regular Torz... errr... Torx screws.

Mines got the claw logo and was made in 2004. Prefer the grip tape, but the rubber in still good.

12/2001, rubber and torx, a real nice knife indeed.

The lock is excellent. I assume this is called a liner lock but, it's the beefiest liner lock I have seen. Easy to operate and upon opening, the sound of the lock inspires confidence.

Yeah, it's very similar to a liner lock. However, it doesn't seem to have any "bend" in it. It's like a spring loaded straight bar that locks it.( same lock on the vector too aswell as the full size socom by the way) Very nice and I believe it to be extreemly strong.
I really like this knife. -Don't know if it'll become a user. It's too nice to use, but too nice not to. I have a few, and for anyone looking into buying a microtech, don't hesitate.

Yeah, that's the proprietary lock.

I think it has potential (fixed arc swing, so the lock could potentially be engineered for lock up easier), but I worry about the bolt (probably needlessly).

Thanks for the great picts. I like that knife, yes indeed.

I have both MicroTech Amphibian and Micritech Mini Socom Elite as my constant EDC. Both have thinest edge in the industry and I really appretiate it, Mini Socom I use for little surgeryes - cut out splinters etc. But Amphbian ith bit thikesr blade is used for any other task.

On my opinion Microtech delivers more cuality and workmanship then regula knife manufacturesrs and their relatively higher price are reasonable due to more work involved not because of hype.

Thanks, Vassili.
