An Act of Kindness

[Frailer]

By way of background, I was disheartened by the folderol surrounding this year’s forum knife. As I’ve said before, it is the one time of the year when this exceptionally kind place turns a bit ugly. To add insult to injury, I was traveling when the “drop” happened, so I missed my shot at acquiring one. Frankly, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

Then a few days ago—out of nowhere—the ebullient JohnDF sent me a note and offered to give me one. My initial inclination was to decline, as it was simply too generous, and my modest level of activity here on the Porch does not warrant such a gift. Nevertheless, I decided not to snub his kindness, and I gratefully accepted.

Today I am heartened. And over the moon. This knife will be carried regularly and appreciated always. Deepest thanks, John!
