One of BF's most generous and resident good guy Jack Black recently offered to send me a sodbuster to add to my collection. I'm always excited to add another to the collection and so off across the Atlantic Jack sent the knife to find a place among my collection. The knife arrived the other day and will be a lovely addition to my addiction...I mean collection
The first thing you notice is that this knife has was no safe queen, someone used this knife as it should have been used. I love knives like these, they have tons of character with all the wear and tear on the handles and blade. It's a beefy knife, much larger than a Sodbuster Jr but it feels great in the hand. The knife locks open like a steel trap, the snap on this is as loud as any knife I've ever owned. You would use this knife with no trepidation that it's going to close on you, solid as a rock!
Jack had posted this in my sodbuster thread and since these is no maker stamp on it there was some speculation that it's a Kissing Crane. I cannot say with certainty that it's not but I have my doubts. All my Kissing Crane's, German, Italian and China made, have no bails and most have pretty deep stamps on the blade marking them as the maker, it would take some serious steel removal to take the stamp off. Coincidentally, the knife does resemble my Fred.Herder Abr.sohn knives. They have the same pivot, lanyard hole/bail and gator like opening snap. Now, I'm not completely convinced that they are made by them either but I will say that a good guess is that the knife is made in a German factory, if not one of those two. Regardless of where the knife originated from, it's well built and made to work!
A big shout out to Jack for the generous gift to my collection. Most here already know that they don't get any better than Jack and for those who don't, just stick around a bit and it will be obvious. So, thanks again Jack, I really appreciate the gift! All the best:thumbup:
Now for some pics!
