I ran over to Don Hanson's Saturday afternoon. I wanted to see the Mark Holson bowie that has been posted here, and I enjoy getting a chance to grab an early peak at some of the ivory Don has picked up after a big show. Well, he didn't disappoint, and my timing was good. Don had been cutting and shaping some of the long pieces.

Since it was laying out on the table, we took some of his 'older' walrus supply out of mineral oil, wiped them off, and got this picture. A lot of possibilities laying there!

Since the camera was out, we got a bowie picture, too. The bowies are all spoken for, but just happened to be available at the same time for a group picture. The two in the lower picture are Mark Holson's first and third bowies.

Thought everyone would enjoy seeing these.

Don has cornered the market on incredible handle materials. Look at that one on the left which is black and white!!!

Lucky you! Thanks for the images.

So much promise contained in those pieces of ivory. They could not be in better hands. Most excellent array of bowies as well.

I had some time to post a few more pictures taken yesterday at Don's shop. Thought they needed to be on this thread, too. It always amazes me how clean and picked up it seems in there. (Except for the various pieces of walrus laying around :) ).

The front shop and workbench:

Always neat things happening on the workbench:

And, the forge with Little Giants:

Thanks, Don, for the enjoyable afternoon.

Clean, organized, well-planned shop = Clean, organized, well-planned work.

So that's were all the nicely coloured ancient walrus ivory has gone.

A very nice group of bowies indeed.
Thanks Keith and all for your comments, there was a lot of very nice ancient walrus available at Blade this year and I bought all I could afford, about half of that pictured. I did leave some very nice stuff there for others, you got to get it when you can, it's not always available.

Canine, I enjoyed your visit yesterday, thanks.

Top of the line knifemaker and operates a extremely clean shop. I'm impressed !

Just kidding, Don. We know that you're already spoken for. :p :D
