I found a medium zermatt, floating for less than $10 a while ago and bought it for my already worn black farmer. Later on I retired that knife for a green one... to my dismay, the button on the pouch wore on the alox fairly quickly and unevenly. Anyway, for the cost of a drop of dish soap and some stale pound cake, I've solved the problem.

Better yet ..... Buy a handmade sheath from one of the fine craftsmen who sell on Etsy.

I use lots of different material for that purpose. Closed cell foam sheet, velvet, leather. Flexible glue or sealants seem to work okay bonding to the leather around the snap inner surface. Sorry to see what it did to your knife. 😕

I fold up a hanky and clam shell it around my pioneer . the knife stays up right in my front pocket and distributes the weight a little.

I don't mind the worn look on alox, just wish this particular sheath didn't make it wear this way. I carry the farmer for work daily, so the sheath is nice as the knife is always easily accessible. Works well since I wear a tool belt and my pockets are usually full of screws and wire nuts.

Depending on how thick that plastic layer is, the friction between the scales and the back of the stud will tear a hole in it sooner or later.
I used thicker plastic before (from my kids toy packaging), but I found a strip of leather glued on the inside of the sheath works best for me long term.
That’s another way to fix loose leather sheaths as well.
