I decided to make a different fatwood torch to my usual one today. To make this one I needed some Cedar root as cordage so I found a section and split it in half, there is a little trick to doing this but as easy as it is to show you it's kinda hard to explain in words !

I then lashed the fatwood to a green stick...

I would have spent more time on it but I was in an area popular with sheeple and didn't want to get spotted by one of the paranoid creatures !

We then set back off along the trail.....

the feathers might be prayer markings.

the Plains Indians do similar things with ribbons.

If that is public land where people hunt deer, the feathers are used as lures.

You load the feather up with "doe in heat/estrus" type lures or doe urine and hang them from trees. Hanging them allows the wind to carry the scent and bring the bucks in.

They sell artificial feathers that hold more scent but some folks are a bit more traditional.

Ah, is that what drew Pitdog up the trail?
Torches are very cool. I wonder of some of that wet moss wrapped around the lower half of the torch would extend its life?

Nice torch
Trappers will use a feather or a strip of fur to disperse scent (smeared on the feather) in the air also the feathers movement in the air will act to attract arousing curiosity.
Like the pictures you post thanks
