An angle ?

Hi folks.
One of the lads that I know was looking for a sharpener that he could take into the field. I suggested one of Lansky's that had 4 groves for sharpening but he only wanted 2. He wants it simple. I suggested a Outdoor Edge Sharp-X with only 2 groves. They say it is at a 22 degree angle. My question is: Would that be combined or just one side for a total of 44.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Regards
Tar :)

More than likely, it's 22 per side (44 inclusive).

Most commercially available V-type sharpeners don't ever get lower than 15 per side (30 inclusive), and many of them don't even get below 20 per side (40 inclusive). Still some are wider than that, up to 25 per side (50 inclusive). So, this one is likely right in the heart of that wide(ish) angle-setting range so common with these types of sharpeners. The vast majority of factory knife edges will be in that same range, so the sharpeners sold to maintain them try to keep the setting in same general ballpark.

Something actually set at 22 inclusive (11 per side) would likely be way outside the typically-accepted edge durability 'comfort zone' of most knife users and not recommended by most knife manufacturers, even though some of us sharpening fanatics will sometimes take it that low. But we're the weird exception. :D
