I would like to apologize for letting certain members of the group on the OSF get me worked up. After more than a year of being chastised and having my name and my knives degraded by many on that forum, I finally had enough. I know, I shouldn't stoop to their level, and I shouldn't care, but I have seen "Rumor" become "Fact" all too often on the internet if left unchecked.

No newcomer to that forum would ever consider a Busse knife because of the constant "bad mouthing" that goes on over there. All I know about Busse knives from reading over there is that they don't cut and nearly every other knife ever made is at least as good if not better than a Busse. Also, if you like Busse knives, then you're just a fanatic who bought into the "hype".

Whenever the trouble makers are asked to support their opinions with specific facts, they either change the subject or run and hide.

The owner of KnifeForums just locked the other thread that was running on this subject. He had some very intereting comments. He comes off as an honest man who does not stand for the spreading of untruthful information. I thank him for that.

I really enjoy the Busse forums. It's a great group of guys and gals that don't make a practice of bashing anyone. I certainly don't want the OSF to be brought up in the future in snide remarks or negative commentary.

I think most folks come here for fun. It's why this forum is one of the largest manufacturer forums on the internet. We'll keep having a good time, even if our knives don't cut and you're all a bunch of fantatics! I like fantatics! They're kinda like lunatics only different!;)

Back to normal, (time to drink! ;) )

This crazy-eyed fanatic wants to know how the boat trip on the Great Lakes (which one?) that you and the Mrs. took went!

Cheers,

Aww heck Jerry,Ithought you were gonna apologize for not havin the new BA's out yet and were gonna send me a prottotype to test for you!:D

Jerry, you have absolutely nothing to apologize for! I don't think you got "worked up" even though you were well within your right to be p*ssed off! (IMO).

Hmmmm.......Now that I think about it....you actually should apologize for making me think of beer when I have none and should mow the friggin lawn!:grumpy:

The only way to deal with such misinformation is to challenge it, if it is in a magazine write a letter to the editor responding to the "review" and stating directly that the information is not accurate and you would like the chance to do a direct comparison alongside the reviewers.

Without this confrontation this disinformation will continue to grow as hype feeds off itself. The results will either stand up or not. Do this often enough and those people will stop making such claims - they then however just go somewere else and say it again hoping that you don't find out about it.

If you wanted to be really aggressive challenge the manufacturers themselves as this will force them to deal with the problem. Or sponser live demonstrations against the knives they are promoting as superior.

None of this will not of course convince really biased individuals of anything, however the argument does get weakened, and it is likely that your readership base would be larger depending on how you choose to proceed.

Challenge??? Why I would never succumb to that level, would I??:D

Gentlemen, As a member of that forum (and several others) I ask a favor of you all. Please do not judge Knifeforums or the Outdoor Survival Forum solely on the post of a few. I agree with you all that personal attacks have no place on the internet. Hopefully you will not see that again.

terrill, i know these guys wouldn't judge all by the stupidity of a few. i know i don't.
welcome to the busse forum, stick around! :D

Terrill,

One warning. If Mr. Idaho Skunk offers to look after any of your cutlery, especially your Busses, walk away. Do not ask for information. Do not even tell him what you have. He has the uncanny ability to releive people of their INFI.

You have been warned!

Cheers and welcome,
BJB :D

buy the way terrill, if you ever need anybody to watch your cutlery...

whoops... damned rumors:rolleyes:

Jerry,
A man has to defend what he believes in.

BJB,
Nice grab- you pinched me by minutes !! Enjoy. :)

I stand behind your knives Jerry. Any reasonable man with a proper agenda would too. I think that it's a riot that all of the knives that they were putting forward as being superior to yours were clearly of lesser quality. It gives me the impression that they enjoy pinching their pennys.

I think getting worked up when someone spreads false information about your work or your company is far from the wrong thing to do. Certain parts of that 'debate' didn't need to happen of course, but overall there isn't a need for an apology.

Some of the things I'm interested in and follow via internet forums tend to generate strong opinions. Ask if you should shoot a Glock or a Sig at Glocktalk. Go to any hunting forum and ask if you should hunt deer with a .223. Ford vs. Chevy. I have a friend who would try to fight me if I suggested that his Blackhawk pack was inferior to my Kifaru. People can be pretty opinionated over things that don't necessarily affect them.

Regardless, most people don't give much thought to the fact that there is someone somewhere actually building these things we all enjoy playing with and that their responsibilities extend far beyond just supplying us with stuff. I don't know how many people are employed at Busse, but you have to figure that some portion of their future depends on its success. Then you have the fact that Jerry has no doubt worked very hard to get himself where he is and has invested a lot of time and sweat into the whole thing. So when people get upset because Busse doesn't take attacks on its products lying down, or is a little concerned when someone puts out what appears to be a copy of their design, or uses a Busse model name to describe their knife, think about the fact that the issue is bigger than what the knife buying public thinks is best for us. I wish everyone could just shake hands and agree, but for some people this is their livelihood and protecting that is priority.

Maybe I'm sensitive to the rumor mill (I work for Firestone, I know how bad it can get), but I don't see the problem.

Besides, this issue is taking time away from the all important grinding that Jerry has to do. Some of us are itching to know if 'easier to get custom' means a hollow ground FSH.
