Howdy,

Some years back, I wrote an article about starting a fire with a Ferrocerium Rod.

It was slated to appear in American Survival Guide, but then that magazine stopped existing.

So, I never published it, nor made it available. And then I would forget about it for long periods of time. Like the Buck Hartsook article I need to take pictures for.

But, after reading some of the current threads, I just decided to publish it, it it's original form. Some of the company references are out-dated, but the information is good, I think.

You can find it at.... http://eyeoncutlery.blogspot.com/

And feel free to tell me what you think....

That is a very imformative piece of writing. Thanks for th information

It's funny, all the little seemingly obvious tricks you can pick up by hanging around here...

I had heard of the idea of holding the knife stationary, and drawing the firesteel back to make sparks, but it never occurred to me to stick the knife or axe deep into a log for the ability to strike one handed in a very stable configuration. That is pure genius - thanks for the tip!

Great job, thank you. Your friend at the post Donald S.

What is the post? And thank you.

Welcome, most welcome. Thank you.

Good article Marion

Thanks my friend.

Good write-up, i must say. I also hope you'll post a link to the Buck Hartsook article, when you finish it. I have one, and i'm always interested in seeing what others have to say about it.

Good article Marion. hearing titles like American Survival Guide, and names like Chris Janowski takes me back in time a bit. I used to always look forward to Mr. Janowski's writings in Practical Survival, I really miss those days sometimes.

I didn't realize the Spark Lite had been around that long. It's a great little bit of kit and weighs little. I think it is under-rated.

Thanks for bumping it up Marion. I enjoyed your aticle and feel all the info is top knotch!

Great job!

I like the Spark Lite too, I use it as a alternate method.

Good article, thank you!
(and you are right, it definitely could benefit from some photos)

Yeah, maybe I will add some, and re-release it...
