"An average businessman with a Microtech Halo in his car?"

An actual quote from the fantastic Fox TV show, "24". I couldn't believe it. In the show, when he first started pulling the knife hidden in his car, I thought "that button looks familiar." Then, when the lead character got attacked, he disarmed the guy and pulled the knife aside. Then, to my utter surprise, he said:

"An average businessman with a Microtech Halo in his car?"

I'd be curious to find out who - if anyone - consulted for this show. This is the second knife showing; he pulled out a smaller OTF in the second episode.

The show just ended, but they found time to squeeze in ANOTHER knife! Tragically, it was a balisong that, of course, was flipped out by a bad guy. Apparently, good guys don't carry balisongs.

You should catch it, Frank. I don't watch much TV besides 20/20, but I rush home to see this show. Be warned though: the show is 24 episodes with a continuing storyline. It would still be fun to watch, but I'd check out the website for details on past episodes if you like the show you see.

Haha...I knew as soon as I saw that there would be at least one post on here immediately :D Great scene. I was surprised to hear Jack name the knife...most people watchin' were probably like, "A what-tech who?" That show is definately the best new show of the season!

My wife is addicted to this show. We were watching it together when before I could open my mouth she says "Is that a Microtech?". I asked her how the hell she knew that. What does she say? "I saw it on Blade Forums." Apparently she browses this forum to look for gift ideas for me. Maybe a Halo is in the cards for me this Christmas.

Cool I still have an hour and a half before the show starts here. just enough time to get my son brushed and flushed and get him to beddy bye!

Watch for more MT knives on that show. I happen to know that MT has made a few expecially for them. You might say, "But it looks like a standard Halo?" But, it's not. It's a modified stage prop. Keep watching. You'll see.

Ok Bruddah chuck i just got done watching so what's up with the Microtech. I'm not very familliar with the Halo but am I right when I say that the Halo has a Charging handle. It doesn't seem like he pulled the charging handle when he closed the knife. Am I right? do I get the Prize? Thats pretty much the only thing that I may have noticed. Come to think of it I'm not sure I noticed that. Anyway ya gotta spill the beans

I hardly ever watch that show and never actively. Tonight I happened to see that scene and thought "looks like an MT, but probably typical Hollywood and a cheap knockoff" Then low and behold they say MT Halo. Coolness. Now I gotta find a show with a BM Stryker and MOD Ladyhawk.

****! I Missed the episode when me and Shade went out for a beer run. I remember High School High had a villian that popped an MT OTF.

Man, I love that show and have been watching it from day one. Sometimes on Sunday nights you can catch it again on the FX channel.

Anyway, when I heard him say that I thought man, this is the coolest show on TV!:D :D

The biggest surprise is that he actually said "Microtech Halo." If I had seen this before my knife obsession kicked in, I would've been wondering what a Mikretekalo was.

So, the producers of the show spoke directly with Microtech? And this whole thing is a sly marketing slip-in? Pretty cool, if you ask me.

Atomic Zero -- you are right. That was my biggest surprise. For 99% of the watchers that line flew right over their head. The fact that he said the name means they must have some knifenut on staff or had a deal with Microtech. It was cool though. Since I have been watching I think I have seen knife use 5-7 times.

Best show on TV right now.

Yes, the Halo has a "charging handle" that must be pulled to close the knife.

Several years ago, my TV set died. It's the flyback transformer. Ever since, I've been meaning to get around to start looking into investigating the possibility of maybe getting a replacement part. But, I haven't gotten around to it yet. So, I didn't see this show and can't comment on how the knife was closed.

And this whole thing is a sly marketing slip-in?

When companies pay to have their product used, shown, or mentioned by name on a TV show, that's called a "product placement." Many of the shows you watch, those of you who have working sets, are just extended commercials. Writters are told that they have to work certain products into the script even if they don't fit. Actors hold their soda pop cans very carefully so that you can see the logos. It's a lucrative industry.

But, I doubt that MT paid for a product placement for the Halo. With it's legal standing, it's such a limited distribution item. And, with it's $500ish price tag, it's very high end for a knife.
I do know what happened. The director wanted a unique knife, something exotic, something totally menacing, something "modern," and something with really good camera appeal. The prop man dug through his knife box full of made in Pakistan Hibben-like fantasy knives, but the director was unimpressed. So, the prop guy called a knife dealer friend of his who suggested the MT Halo. The director loved it. MT was contacted and the "stage prop" versions were designed and fabricated.

You'll be seeing more MT knives in that show too. Fox has decided, I think, that knives have a strong audience appeal. It's interesting, isn't it, that people are so scared of these things, so appauled by them, but they love to watch.

I guess that sort of says something about me. Instead of sitting around watching, I'd rather be out doing. Maybe I'll order a flyback transformer today... maybe not.

It's stunning that Fox would recognize an audience for knives; high-end knives in this case. I doubt that a large portion of TV watchers would know who Microtech is or what they do, but they put it out there anyway. There's a show of faith I wouldn't think you'd see very often. How cool. And the fact that the director/prop man actually initiated the relationship is doubly cool.

That scene would have been a bit different if he had pulled a 22 inch Pakistani Mystic Warrior Hydra Beheader out from under the back seat :D .

Chuck, here's something that's directly in your arena: at the end, they also showed a bali (in the hands of a bad guy, of course). Any info on that knife?

Zero

Edit: I knew of product placement, but for some reason I used "slip-in." In a rare case, I came off as a smartass unintentionally :D .

...say's the man with over 4 posts a day since he started wasting his time here almost three years ago. Just admit that you can't afford a TV because you spend every spare penny on knives like the rest of us!

Glad to see more knives shown on TV, but you have to realize that 99.9% of the knives shown are not real 'working' knives, they are props, even if produced by the knifemaker (I would imagine the MT shown was an actual MT, but probably had a false edge on the blade). I know firsthand as I saw many props when I worked for Sony Pictures.

Guns are altered in a similar fashion. There were a number of propmasters who cursed Glock when they first started showing up in films/TV, as they had to drill and plug the hammer-forged barrels and broke a number of their tools in the process...

It's amazing what good old Hollywood can make look real :D

You're right, the Halo does have a charging handle but, did you notice him close the knife at all? From what I saw he just put it on the seat next to him. I was actually waiting to see if he'd use the handle or if they mocked up a D/A for it.

Well, maybe Fox should hear from us.Let them know knife guys are tuning in and like the show and its use of knives.
