An awful lot of toothpicks !

Having carried a large Texas toothpick all thru grade school and junior high (~1955 - 1962), I'm in the market to get one, to remind me of the good-old-days. :)

Another thread regarding Rough Rider knives available at SMKW inspired me to browse thru their catalog, and I found an awful lot of toothpicks at inexpensive prices....which is what I'm looking for. From reading the threads here, I know that Rough Riders often (usually) give good quality for little $$, but what about some of these other brands? Some of them I recognize as just selling their name to chinese importers, and the quality can be 'iffy', ie Remington, Winchester, etc.

Among these brands, which ones give Rough Rider type quality?
Chief,
Elk Ridge,
Kissing Crane,
Marbles,
Mossberg,
Remington,
Rite Edge,
Wild Boar,
Winchester.

These are all low dollar knives, but that's what I'm looking for right now.
I just don't want to spend $10 for a pakistan POS.
Anybody have any experience with these brands?

Thanks,
Jmh

Also, consider a Queen-made "Big Chief". The one I have is a number of years old. It has aluminum handles & a bail (I believe the older ones like mine also had a D-2 blade). Same size as a toothpick (5" closed). It is my back-up when hiking/canoeing. Makes for a good fish, bird, or food prep knife that you can get wet and are not afraid to lose (and the bail helps ensure you wont).

Here's one:

That said, if you want a traditional bone/antler/horn handled knife, you'll obviously have to look elsewhere.

Thanks, Warrior. The blade shape on that Big Chief looks right,
but I'm looking for a 'toothpick' style...like this'un here:

Waxman and SMKW have tons of toothpicks, and I know RR has generally good F&F, but I'm unfamiliar with the other brands in the list.

Heck, if I get one toothpick, will I be addicted to them? Probably. I started out collecting a boot knife or 2, or 3, or....then it was 'unusual' foreign species, like ratcheting Navajas, Opinels, German Mercators....Yikes!
When will it END !!?

out of the brands listed ive heard marbles are almost identical to the rough rider series, so ya might try those. The kissing crane that i have actually was a tiny toothpick and fit and finish was perfect but i could never get the knife sharp enough for my liking. Personally at the price point id go for the rough rider. Ive had one and my 12 year old has an assortment. Excellent and they are great for budget minded folks:thumbup:
Plan B would check ebay you might be able to score something there, lotsa old reliable brands.
Good luck with your Quest
Toothpick is one of my favorite patterns, something classy about 'em

OK, Thanks, Ivan...
+1 for Marbles & RR. :)

If you can't get it sharp, it ain't a knife...so I'll avoid Kissing Crane for now anyhow, and try some others 1st.
