For any of you that use dryer lint for firestarting I have found that the dryer sheets burn great as well and quite aggressively. I just bundle some lint up in the used sheet and light the whole parcel.......

So what is the easy mistake to make ? Well I'd applied a generous coat of mineral oil to my knife yesterday and today forgot to wipe it off before trying to strike my ferro-rod....yeah that's not gonna work, lesson learned !!!

I continued on the rest of my walk, gotta love this time of the year eh !

Maisy had a dip in the water and then stood on the boardwalk to dry off.....

Snicker wasn't too sure about the boardwalk idea....

On the way back I came across what I'm sure were Oyster mushrooms, but not being too up on my fungi just left them be......

I really should learn my fungi as much as I learn my plants because I think I passed up some beauties here, check out their size !!!!

Nice shots, pit!

It's great to see Maisy splashing about and striking dramatic poses on boardwalks again.

I haven't used drier lint much myself (aside from that initial 'yep, it takes a spark!' confirmation). How does it stack up against a PJCB for fire-starting? Looks like it would be less messy. What's the burn time?

All the best,

- Mike

Those are some great pics. I have tried the dryer sheets by themselves never thought about putting some lint inside. THanks for the info. It is also great to see Maisy and Snicket out enjoying this great weather.

It's kinda dependant on what clothes you have been drying so it's a little hit and miss !!!

That's good to know. I tried lint before and it sucked. I'll try the dryer sheet out soon.

How has TT been in the water?

Ahh, great pics. Always nice to see pictures of Masiy near the water. Seeing as I always send them to my nephew, and he loves em!

TT is actually a good little swimmer but is always more reluctant than Maisy to get in !

Nice stuff. The mushrooms are beautiful. I know a few for my area, but I'm always wanting to learn more.

It's the remains of an old cement factory and now part of Butchart Gardens.

I love the area you live in. I went to Butchart Gardens when I was 15 and was totally fascinated.
Beautiful place.

As always, beautiful pictures. A couple of them look like postcards.

Thanks! Nice to see those as it is rainy and dreary here today.

Cool pics pit. Beautiful area! Since I haven't done it before and would rather learn from your mistakes :D what happened?

Very little, certainly no sparks. Finished up having to wipe down both the blade and the ferro rod !!!:(

Ah..I sort of figured that...didn't think mineral oil could flare up but didn't know if it could cause any permanent effects on anything or not.

Oyster mushrooms grow on dead wood. I cant tell by the pic if these are. They look like oysters.

Finally used the tumble dryer and got some lint and a used dryer sheet.

I couldn't get the dryer sheet to light. The sparks were hitting it, but wouldn't catch. I had to expose some of the lint to finally get it to light. Nice idea though.

Pit - good to see the dogs. Glad Maisy is ok.

I'd go even farther and say it might be totally dependant on what the clothes you dried are made of. I tried it once and it wouldn't light at all.

Stay sharp,
