I don't usually post eBay auctions on the forum, but here is one I'd give my eye teeth to win. Unfortunately, winning the auction wouldn't be the only expense. It's a charity auction sponsored by Chivas UK, and is definitely out of the ordinary:
A Day with the Gurkhas in Kent, England
Four people can be the guests of The 2nd Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles for a day at their headquarters and barracks in Kent, the ‘Garden of England’. You will be able to watch them in some of the rigorous training techniques that have made them the fierce and feared fighting force they are today. You will also be given a personally guided tour around the barracks and a rare insight into their history and battle honours. At lunch-time you will sit down to eat with the battalion at one of their traditional curry lunches. At the end of the day the group will be presented with a Kukri Gurkha knife. This experience must be undertaken between June and December 2002 and will be subject to standard security checks and code of conduct requirements.
Wow!:D

That would be too cool. I would be on my knees the whole time chanting "I am not worthy, I am not worthy" though so it would be emabarrasing.

MAN!! THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN!!

Oh the things I could do if I won the lottery! Lets see, a house down the road from Bir Gorkha, a "one of each" collection of khukuris and other knives, guns, didgeridoos.....ahhhh!

An experience like that would be one that none of us here would ever be able to forget!!!!
It would be nice to be allowed to take an independent photographer along to record the experience in pictures, but Alan wouldn't qualify as he would be to busy looking at everything he wouldn't be able to snap any pix!!!!;) :p  :p :D

Uncle,

I'm not sure what the code of conduct requirement is... But I don't think I'd pass either!

Yvsa... I could too take photos! They'd be of my feet and out of focus... maybe crooked too, but dang it, I'd take some :D.

I was shooting a football game a couple of weeks ago and a friend who works for another paper was standing with me on the sideline. A play unfolded right in front of us, with the ball being fumbled... BOTH of us were yelling "FUMBLE, FUMBLE," but neither one of us shot a photo of the action... Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the moment :D:D:D

Good thang you weren't gettin' payed for it Bud. And your description of the pix you would take would be just about what I expected.;) :p :p  :D

Oh and by the way guys. I Could pass the code of conduct.:p :D

Oh Uncle, let's say one of us forumites (theoretically) won this auction. And this forumite passed all the security and code of conduct test/checks. What would you say to the commissioning of a "Special Khuk". A presentation to the 2nd Battalion that might possibly be added to their mess collection. Possibly something that would be kept next to the Queen's Truncheon (this is the 2nd Battalion after all) :)

Just a thought on the possible oppurtunities of this auction.
:D

If they hand you a khukuri knife, will the English police arrest you before you can make it to the airport? Knife laws are very stringent in England.

Actually... we both were getting paid  . But I didn't feel bad... I got some of my best football shots of the year that day :D.

I MIGHT be able to pass the code of conduct... if I knew what they were:confused: ;):p

Just so there won't be any guessing involved... I wrote to the gentleman (or lady) who was sponsoring the auction and asked what the code of conduct requirements were...

I also invited them to come over to the cantina for a visit. Maybe we'll get a new formite who has close connections with the Ghurka regiment :).

They would be welcome. Since Lhakpa retired from the 10PMOGR I don't have any inside contact or info.

Well the auction goes well (i guess) it's up past 200 pounds and out of my abilities now. <sniff sniff> :(

Maybe John Powell will grab it. He's got more money than he knows what to do with.

Do you suppose if John Powell just happened to get the high bid that the book we're all waiting for would be expedited because of the information John would be able to compile from spending a day with the Ghorkas?;) :p :)

And do any of y'all suppose the H.I.Scagel Style Southwestern Bowie Model will be done before the book comes out?:p  ;) :D
