"An Emerson! That's a nice knife!"

Last night at work I'd removed a rotating brush from a vacuum, in order to cut & remove hair, string, etc. I had set my knife down on the counter and started using the pliers on my Leatherman to remove some of the remaining debris, when one of my new employees walked in and noticed my opened folder laying on the counter. He blurted out, "An Emerson! That's a nice a knife!" as he walked over and picked up my Journeyman and began to examine it. I normally would frown upon a person just picking up one of my knives like that, without permission. But I was so impressed with his immediate recognition of the knife manufacturer that I just let it go. Turns out knows a bit about knives and a lot about guns. Anyway, that was only the second time in about five years that I've had someone recognize an Emerson when my knife was in view.

Thatw pretty cool. Iv have people ask about my knives but never had someone know anything about any of them.

Very cool. I've had coworkers recognize Spyderco and Benchmade knives of mine, but never an Emerson. I have, however, converted a few of them TO Emerson!

Great story, Joe!
Thank you! I am thinking about creating a similar situation and see if this guy is able to guess a different manufacturer...I don't want to get off the Emerson topic but, you get my point. I think it's cool that he was able to do that and he's a guy-guy who doesn't even own an Emerson knife.

Ahhh, the conversion -- I had that happen one time a couple years ago when a friend, who was anti-Emerson "because they cost too much," handled and used my CQC7 for a couple of hours and then, in the following six months, went and bought himself a CQC7 and a Commander! And, he loves his Commander even more than the CQC7!

ive probably had people ask me 5+ times regarding my either benchmade or zt's or spyderco, "is that a gerber". i think you can hear my teeth cringe.

Ouch. I've had a couple folks recognize my Benchmade 840, but never my other knives. I did have a Home Depot employee spot my Lumi Nox watch the other day. We then went onto talking guns for a bit. Knives do seem to be a more rare interest among people though. Even for the small percentage that carry a knife, most don't even know what they bought or have any real interest in knives.

Over my many years, it has been my privilege to deal with a great many people. From my observations, there are a number of hobbies that seem to go together with knife people, such as:

Guns
Photography
Motorcycles
Watches
Flying and of course,
Camping.

I could probably add Flashlights, Whisky and fine cigars to that list too. Any others?

I don't mean to steal your thread Joe. If you want, just kick my arse out and I'll start a new thread. :o

For me, most of the above, plus guitars and chainsaws.
