I dis-assembled my XM-18, Strider and my Emerson this weekend to clean and lube.

Why are the pivot washers of different sizes? Larger on the scale side and small on the lock side?

because on the frame lock side if you have a larger washer it would protrude onto the lock bar, hence hindering the lock bar from engaging
