An Eye Brand Sodbuster with crappy QC but my first home-made patina

I picked it for "forged cabon steel" and a experience of German made blades . It asks for around 35 bucks so never a cheap one :grumpy:.

But I even can not get angry with it because the QC is totally unbelievable . Also I don't want to return it or get another one instead due to the QC (In case I howl out if they send another one like this:mad:).

Compare to my GEC F&F Tool for only 50$, this one looks like a 7$ one !!:barf:

So I desided to practise my patina making skill on it . I did this on blade and back spring , with a pan of boiling apple vinegar ,some napkin and a pair of chopsticks.

Will get some glue to fill the little worlds between handle and liner .

Did the covers pull away from the scales before or after immersion in boiling liquids?
Patina looks fine.

Yes!

I did not immersion it into liquid but used napkin/chopsticks to get and brush vinager on blade and spring.

Have to add : The tip was broken and the edge had a little breach when arrived . I wonder if the QC man had a glance on it !

Nice looking patina! :) Congratz on that one!

The knife is not really good looking. This must have been really some mishap at the QC, and it´s not very satisfying. I made a very other experience with Carl Schlieper. I got some during the time, and every one of them was in good condition (not excellent, but ok for the price). Yours seem to be very badly made. Sorry for that. (In your case, I would think twice if I would get another C. Schlieper, but as already told, I just made good experiences with them) :(

That does get rather awful. One thing though, I still don't get guys tossing their knives in boiling water.

Trust me , I didn't put knife in any liquid but only brush some hot vinegar on blade. That has nothing to do with those huge gaps.......

Oh good! Yes, I read the gaps were there new. Sorry, I have read lately people putting their knives in pots of boiling water.

Yes well the patina looks right, but the rest of it looks like a badly thrown together parts knife  A bit like my.....Eyebrand Jack that has a crinked Sheepfoot taken from a Stockman...the blade hits the liner surprise surprise! Mind the Gaps too...proud pins and raised springs on open. A very bad trip :thumbdn:

I've got a 2 year old Eye Brand large stockman and unfortunately my experience was the same.
The overall construction was similar to my 2004/5 Bulldog stock knives but the newer Eye Brand knife was awful. Even the bolsters are unevenly finished.

Exactly....Gaps and raised spring when open. Also ,not smooth walk at all:(

I think you could safely say that a five dollar Taylor would have better fit and finish than that.

I agree . I had a Schliepper Eye brand barlow arrive that had either been dropped and broken the stag bone scale or completely bypassed QC. I sent it back from Australia for a replacement and thanks to a good retailer got an acceptable replacement. A RoughRider is better quality.
