An H-1 Delica.....

I saw Sal mention that in Spykens thread. I'd like to know what the hell H1 is to start, LOL.

I think H-1 is a highly corrosion resistant stainless steel. Benchmade uses it in a boating knife.

H-1 Tested very well in corossion resistance. Both in "Q-Fog" and I personally dove with one for a week, no rinse, no protection, no corrosion.

It is a Nitrogen enhanced (.10) stainless steel with .15 Carbon, 6.-8. Nickel, .5-1.5 Moly, and 14.-16. Chrome.

We were able to get good edges, especially with our serrations. Edge retention about in there with AUS-6, not as good as talonite, or dendritic cobalt, but quite acceptable for a steel that lives in salt water and much less expensive than the alternatives.

The Delica handle, with a modifed Delica blade (broader tip). Blade & lock are H-1, pins, clip, barrel are other very good salt water materials. We're still several months away. No prices yet. Should be a nice PC folder for those in and around the sea.

Not much else to say. I'll say more when we're closer to delivery.

Does that mean there will also be an H-1 rescue?

Thanks for all the info, Sal, it gives me a lot of confidence to know how much you've tried this out yourself.

I hope that there will be a high visability handle color for those divers and boaters. Yellow perhaps?

Hi Spyderwa. We had the same thoughts and came up with a variety of colors. Then we did a fair amount of research with both commercial and recreational sea going customers and the overwhelming preference was for black. We'll leave the barrel bolt for the clip silver to differentiate from the normal Delica.

Hey Johnniet. It depends on public reaction to the first model.

At BLADE, I saw a very nice sailing knife proto that was nothing like the Delica. So there may be another one out there.

The one I saw at blade was called a Salt ll I think.Looked like a Delica with a non curved edge,Joyce said that that was something to do with the steel that was used.It is very close to a Delica and would be great in salt water enviroments.

That sounds really promising... I'm looking forward to it. I've also been impressed with the corrosion resistance of H1.

I'm looking forward to a marine use spydie. My thoughts:

- 3.7-3 inch blade, slightly longer handle than Delica (for more positive grip)
- plain edge (better for slicing, rather than ripping), slight recurve for grip on rope
- checkered G10 handles (thicker and better grip)
- blade shape like the Mouse/Executive (more belly)
- bigger spydie hole (for more positive opening)
- as an option: comes with a multi-carry sheath for attaching to PFD's in open position , horizontal carry on belt, neck carry

I know most prefer serrated for rescue, but I think plain edge is more utility friendly.
