an idea i've been thinking about...

what would you all think about a molle front for the knives? i know there is a pouch that is available for the 5 and 6, and i've seen it mounted on other sheaths as well, such as the junglas and the 4, if i remember correctly. anyway, if there was a molle panel that would bolt on the front of these sheaths, there would be a plethora of different sized pouches and lashing options for each sheath.

what really got me thinking about this is a combination of things... i saw someone had mounted the 5/6 pouch on the junglas and was wearing the whole knife slung. i thought that was a great idea, but thought it would be nice to be able to attach a larger pouch to the knife to utilize more of the sheath's size and to limit the amount of other stuff you would have to carry.

then, i saw adam's post of the maxpedition bottle holder with the 5 clipped to it and thought something like that would be great to store a survival/first aid kit (or just some water and a small kit). it seems that it would be a great option to be able to attach the bottle holder, new esee pak kit (when they come out), or any number of other pouches to the front of the sheath.

with this attachment, you could attach the sheath to your pack or belt like you normally would, but you wouldn't lose that space to attach a smaller pouch. effectively, you would be putting your blade between your bag and a pouch, but still leaving it accessible. the same would work for mounting it to your leg (although, i'm not sure that would be very comfortable with the junglas and a mid-sized pouch).

if you want to just sling your junglas and not carry a pack, this type of setup would give you a little more room to carry some necessities without weighing you down or limiting you to an altoids tin. you would also be able to swap kits out for different purposes quickly because you could just undo the molle straps instead of using tools to remove and exchange pouches.

just an idea i've been thinking about lately. what do you guys think?

i don't have my junglas yet, but i am definitely planning on it and something like this would make it a much more versatile piece of gear. i'm really looking forward to hearing your feedback... good or bad. ;)

That's a good idea, but I'm not sure about the post you are referring to.

I would strap my 5 to a bag/pack for EDC use, and could use MOLLE Locks or a type of clip to clip it to the bag, and then attach a 'Brand X' bottle holder or pouch to the front of the kydex clip.

I'm not sure if there are enough parts, but you could try attaching a TEK-Lok or MOLLE clip to the back of the sheath, and then also attach a MOLLE CLIP to the front. You would probably need longer screws, but it would probably work.....

hi, if you take a look at the online catalog on the sheath accessories page you will see a molle panel is coming out for the junglas sheath.

i actually really like that, personally i dont do a hip carry on my knives, i love the idea of more of a bag sheath, and the molle front would work well for that. the only thing id say that could be off is if you have to many piggy back pouches it gets rid of the versitility of the sheath.

i'm not sure what you are saying, but if you have the molle panel, you could customize it however you want. you could have a vast number of options to mount on the sheath, or you could take it all off.

personally, i love the idea of having it attached to a bag for hiking with a small pouch connected to the front. then, if i want something more portable and simple, i could just detach it from the bag and go with the knife and small pouch. i really can't think of any way to make it more versatile than what i'm describing. you have all the same options as you do without the front panel, except you've added a lot more options.

thanks for the heads up cricket. i suppose i should look before i leap. :) any idea when we can expect to see these?

I was just thinking about this the other day! I think that a MOLLE panel would really add a lot of versatility to the ESEE line up. I wouldn't use one on anything smaller than a ESEE 5, though.
