An idea of expanding the applications of the Triad Lock

How about making a Pilot's Egress Folding knife? For example: a Recon 1 Tanto w/ the teeth on the back like the Ontario Pilot's Knife.

It would leave no doubt as to the superiority of the Triad, as I cannot think of any other lock design, I would trust to hold up to the stress and vibration that sawing through aluminum with the spine of the knife creates.

It will also be sawing through pockets of your pants.
The sawback would be more of a dullish rasp. This would be a piece designed with pilots in mind. It would show that Cold Steel has a folding knife that would be able to venture into the type of tasks that have through this point, been reserved for fixed blades. A lighter knife, that takes up less real estate, but is equal to the task. It would mean that a pilot could take additional gear.

It may be useful outside of pilot survival situation too, like sawing through wood or making notches. Looks like a legitimate use case of applying pressure on the spine which a strong lock can excel.

btw knife police, let's not turn this into another "a knife should/should not be use in X way" thread pretty please. IMO think outside the box discussion is healthy.

Interesting thread. Generally following the same theme, many companies also have larger folding wood saws, but they don't have the Triad lock up.

fair point, but it could be designed much like the boker escrima folder which has the false edge of the dagger blade below the scales. i could sharpen the false edge and make it a true folding dagger, without too much fear of slicing my pants.....but i see no need to do so.

depending on how it would be designed....it could be done to keep the teeth below the scales.

+1 CS should take a stab at making double edged folder, since the strength of the lock makes using the other end of the blade viable. It's been done before by Emerson. Look up "Emerson Rhino", it's like a folding Spyderco Warrior. Something with wide handle and a narrow blade with special purpose spine for soft stuff(imagination ).

I agree. Perhaps an Applegate/Fairbairn much like this Rob Dalton custom I owned.
