Why doesn't EKI vary the handle materials and design? By design I mean adding bolsters. The pics of the customs I've seen are much more attractive than the g10 on the production models.

Personally, I've never really cared for the feel of g10. To be honest that has kept me from purchasing more emersons.

Don't get me wrong, in my experience quality in emersons is top notch. I would just like to see the handles varied a bit.

Sorry if I offended anyone, this is just my 2 cents. Just curious as to why this is so.

I think this is a great observation and agree. It's too bad you feel you may be offending someone - but given the thin skin around here lately, I understand.

The Custom/Production shop (when/if it ever opens

) will offer the option of choosing bolsters, annodized liners, and different handle materials (Micarta, etc...), among other things. Hope that answers your questions.

It most certainly involves cost and some durability issues. The production Emersons are geared towards a user price point, and bolsters are going to add cost. I love Micarta over G-10, but it is also known to stain and change colors. Again, I can hear the complaints now. I am excited about an eventual custom/production process so I can get knives in the materials I like and am willing to pay for. Good question, and that was in no way offensive. It is what this forum is about, vs. Emerson sucks cause they don't have bolsters and micarta on every knife for $99.00. That is the difference.
