With all the Nighthawk fans out there ( I'm a hardcore 'Hawk fan)
there has been, from time to time, several post asking for better blade
steel to be used in the much loved 'hawk. I, for one, would quickly
buy a Bg-42 blade to supplement my two other 'Hawks. I'm sure
that others would also welcome an improvement to a darn good field
knife. 'Hawk fans heres your chance to share with Buck how you feel
about an improved Nighthawk...............

one word- YES!!!!
I would like 2 versions of the Nighthawk in BG-42, one with the normal blade length and one with a blade about 1.5 in shorter. Top it off with a Kydex sheath and you have the perfect field knife!!

Actually, I'd like to see one in D2 with removable scales and an exposed butt.

I'm a HUGE Knighthawk fan and personally I'd love to buy one in either one of those three steels mentioned.
Also, a Strider style sheath would be awesome.

Oh man; you guys are killing me.

I really like the Nighthawk but wish it were in a better steel. How about ATS-34 flat ground or 154CPM flat ground or BG-42 flat ground or S30V flat ground or even 52100 flat ground or A2 flat ground or ... do you see a theme here?

I much prefer BG-42 over ATS-34. One of the best BG-42 heat-treats is done by Chris Reeve. If only there could be a custom collaberation between CR and Buck on a BG-42 field knife with G-10 handles and a kydex sheath...
I can always dream, can't I? :)

I would LOVE to have a Nighthawk with a 9 inch-long blade, made out of BG-42.:).

I think the blade shape of the Nighthawk is about the sexiest design around. I love that little hint of a recurve, the spine transition to tip, everything! I like the handle and I like the company. All we have to do now is get the knife is a better steel and maybe a couple of sizes (9-inch would be waaay coool) and maybe even a mini-Nighthawk.

Nimrod, I lucked out and found a Mini-Night hawk on e-bay NIB.
A.G.Russell had them on special for one week so I'm guessing that
this one was one of that special run. The Model # is 655.

The Mini has a 5" blade plain edge non tanto tip. Really handy little
guy overall. I'm not sure why Buck never offered this knife as a regular.
Maybe they will discover , like they did with the 110, there is a market for
upgraded regular line models like the Nighthawk. Like the 110 the "hawk
has what is called 'transparent enginerring" which simply means the
enginerring that went into the product is so good the user likes it and
doesn't really think about why.

What the Nighthawk also needs is a hole for a lanyard. There should also be a serrated-spine version with black coating.
Furthermore (I know i have mentioned this several times on the forum) it should also be delivered with a eagle-style sheath with a pouch.

I would really be nice if buck would start making some of the variations suggested in this thread:D.

Me too.
We KNOW Buck can do it, the originals were 154CM!!!!
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE????

I followed the lead of someone here last fall and had Chuck Buck sign a 650 black blade nighthawk for me. It's a favorite, but for display and as a keepsake only. I have another one (the small size)I refer to and use as my 'Florida Hog hunting knife', that sorta hunting being a tactical situation, really.

I like a couple of the suggestions above. The steel? Mine sharpens easily enough. I'm happy with it, and it probably does keep the price down. But I would like a thong or lanyard hole at the end of it, preferably through a 'skull-cracker' protrusion. And I'd like a mini version with a non-serrated blade (serrations being great for a bread knife, but let's not argue that here). The sheath? I had a nice leather one made with a sharpening stone pouch.

Non-serrated, lanyard hole,440C or 154CM(made in USA),no tanto point, better sheath.

I would like to have the Nighthawk get further improvments in:
1. VG-10 steel or 154cpm
2.Kydex sheath

Then it should be a perfect knife!
