An improvised deep carry clip for a Microtech Ram-Lok Amphibian

I love my Amphibian, it's become one of my favorite "IDGAF what anyone thinks" EDCs. Been in my pocket every day since I got it last month. I probably wouldn't pull it out on the corner of 5th Ave and 59th street in Manhattan, but down here in "anything goes" Florida, its good to go. But I did not like the "high carry" clip that comes on it. So in search of a solution I asked Casey Lynch if any of his clips had a two hole vertical pattern with 6mm spacing, like the MSI and Amphibian uses. Lo and behold his Protec clips matched. Three days later I have a deep carry clip! The only hiccup was his holes were ever so slightly smaller then the Ti screws that Microtech uses, but that was resolved in 30 seconds with a couple of strokes from a needle file. The end of a scissor could have done it just as easily.

Very happy with it.

This is the factory clip. Granted, nice for what it is, but too high a ride for my liking...

I’ve been considering swapping over my MSI clip to my Amphibian, but I think I’ll give this a try too. First I’m going to check if my Benchmade clips with vertical holes fit.

I tried to order a MSI clip first, but MT informed me they were not selling replacement clips outright "for a while" - since I know what a "while" means in the Microtech world, I took a shot at this. Glad I did!

This knife appeals to me. I normally don't care for thumb studs, but these intrigue me. However, the clip is a deal breaker, so this is definitely interesting. I also like the look of the MSI as I prefer thumb holes or flippers.

If they had only stuck with the pocket clips that were used on the Prototypes.... 20230325_232944.jpg20230325_232925.jpg
