So, while it appears that I missed out on the 'Zaa (although I did manage to snatch one of the GWLEs from the company trough), the RWB Truck of Joy brought some sunshine into my life today. BorderShift had shown me this when I visited him last month, so when he put it up on the Exchange, I didn't need pictures to pounce.

Although he listed it as a Police Recruit, I think this is actually a Combat Recruit variant. Maybe. Looking at the pictures on badmojo and reading the discussions in a couple threads, it certainly looks like a Combat Recruit. The handle holes are all the same size, it has a rear talon hole, and the plunge line starts in the middle of the choil. All of these are supposed to be indicative of the CR family. But as you can see, it certainly has those INFI dimples.

He thought this had belonged to someone associated with the company but that provenance is unproven. Whatever, I really liked it and the trade was to our mutual benefit, so all's well. It has a sharpened upper swedge and fills the hand much better than the Assault Shaker. Now I have to decide whether to leave it naked or attempt to put scales on it....

Best shot I could get of the front end and swedge:

Pt scales on with Colby bolts through the handle holes. That way they can always be removed, either that or paracord.

My $0.02

I vote naked! I LOVE that finish- it looks like something custom that you would pay extra for. It also looks pretty comfortable- how's it feel?

Gorgeous knife and great pic too- Congrats & thanks

My Son Morgan has the first Police Recruit Variant made.

It was shortened at the Busse shop to a two inch or two and a quarter inch blade, Deep Dish Hollow ground, bead blasted and has the same hole pattern that yours does.

I will lay a Combat recruit on the top of it and see if the handle matches.
Police Recruit has a larger handle and a some what different shape to the blade.

I am not sure that I currently have a Police Recruit, or exactly where it might be if I do have one.

I know exactly where my Combat Recruit is and can compare that easily.

Sweeeeeeeet! Hey that one looks really cool. I wish Jerry had done more like that!

Leave it NAKED!!! Looks way cool that way bro. Naked is cool.:D :D

I'd vote for leaving it as it is. Looks very nice and lots of makers and manufacturers are coming out with small knives like that now.

OK,

Fresh back from a visit to My Sons house.

Compared his Variant Police recruit to my Combat Recruit.

His Variant, like yours has four holes, three in a line all the same size and one smaller one offset.

His, like yours has three distinct bumps/finger grooves on the handle.

The Combat Recruit has three same size holes in a line, then a fourth smaller hole also in line.

The Combat Recruit handle has one one distinct bump on it, towards the blade end of the handle.

David Brown had a Police Recruit and a Combat recruit for sale at one point, and you can still look up the ad in the for sale production knives to see a side by side picture.

While I have Heard of A-2 Police Recruits with three holes all the same size I have not actually seen any, all I ever saw were the INFI ones, three holes in a line with a larger hole in the middle.

I sold at least 25 of these back when I was a dealer, Ten Bead Blasted, ten flat black and at least 5 crinkle coated.

Maybe the fourth hole offset was Jerry's way of marking Variants?
