An interesting acknowledgement of traditional patterns

I was looking at the Cabelas website for a new belt and see that they are selling a belt with a built in sheath for a traditional stockman folder. Does anyone have one of these? Would you recommend it? I like the idea, but am on the fence.

On the bright side, they are marketing to us!

I've been buying from Cabela's for years and like their products. I think you should give it a shot, wear it for a while, and report back to the rest of us - all before Christmas :D You can always send it back for a small shipping charge.

I suppose you could just take a traditional sheath that goes perpendicular to the belt and re-sew the belt loops to go parallel with the belt?

It's a neat idea...

They just opened a Cabela's about a 40 minute drive from here. I'll look for it if I make it out there any time soon.

There are some other views that have what looks like a pocket hunter in there.

This belt features a built-in knife pouch for holding an "old timer-style" pocket knife. Proudly worn by stockmen of the Outback. High-quality stitching ensures years of service. Imported.

That is one of my questions too.

They are going to open a new Cabelas store in Yakima. I am hoping to see it up close.

Perhaps the buckle is fastened with snaps. If not, the sheath has to be pretty pliable to allow it to get through the loops. Can't think of any other way around that.

I'll bet it is not for holding pants up ,rather to hang things on , as a knife,light,canteen,whatever...Mike

It looks like the sheath is close to the buckle and probably sits close to the front of the hip, rather on the holed side of the belt. Just a guess.
Personally, i prefer to have my jackknife in my pocket.

take care all,
Brett

Even though it might not have the greatest utility, it is nice to know that at least one manufacturer thinks of the traditionals.

Interesting idea but it looks like it could be bulky or heavy. A horizontal sheath works well though.

I really like horizontal carry for knives, esp smaller sheath knives, you can even keep them round at the back, but don't plan on too much driving.....

How the heck am I supposed to get that sheath through my belt loops?

Feed it through the loops when the pants are off, then put pants on. Also make sure the belt loops are large enough for the belt. Most jeans have a 1 3/4" belt loop (Wrangler's are 2"). Should give you enough wiggle room.

That thing is going to take some serious belt loops to smash that sheath through . I just don't see that for too many people , still think it is for hanging things off of for hikeing, hunting ,something along those lines.......Mike

That's definitely an interesting idea and it looks like a well-made belt. You'd probably just have to keep the belt outside of the first loop on your pants (if the sheath doesn't fit through it), since the sheath is next to the buckle.

I like to carry a fixed blade in that position, but I wonder if anyone is making small horizontal sheaths like that for traditional folders (I've seen a lot of larger ones for tactical folders). Having it sewn onto the belt like the Cabela's version might be kind of nice though, as it couldn't slide around.
