I've posted here about my grandfathers knife. The uncle Henry. Things cleaned more rabbits and whittled more sticks than I'll ever.

Today I stopped at moms and she gave me this box. It was also my grandfathers. It has the date it was given him also written on the enclosed warranty card with his address label on it. Father's Day 1990. I can almost promise it hasn't been opened since. My dad found it when moving back in after the flood. He doesn't remember giving it to his dad, and his sister doesn't either. One of them surely did. Things like this wasn't uncommon gifts to him.

That said, I i wouldn't call it a sentimental acquisition other than it was special enough to him that he didn't use it. It was his, but I have his shotgun and pocket knife that I grew up seeing him use when we would go hunting. But it is still neat and I'll hang onto it.

Anyway, here it is. A Schrade old timer trapper 25 OT. I assume it is carbon judging by the patina. I will clean up the old oil and clean off the rust worms and reoil it well.

If you have any info, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I find this funny. "A knife like grandads". Uh. No. It was grandads!

Nice! I'll bet that will look nice right beside his shotgun. You need to take a pic of the two together for this thread!

Neat ! I'd just wipe off the verdigris with a dry rag, wipe down the blades and springs with a rag damp with mineral oil, and touch up the edge. Looks like it was waiting for you all this time !

That is a great find- even more special because you have a date and specific information about the knife!

I won't be cleaning the age off it. Just the gunk and old oil.

Thanks y'all!

I'll see what I can do with a pic of the shotgun. I'll warn you though, it was in bad shape so I refinished it years ago. It doesn't have the aged look of the knife.

Excellent story brother! Great looking knife with 2 very useful blade shapes!
I would NOT clean off that age either!
Enjoy it!
Joe

And what looks like a very decent sheath as well, even if for a larger knife. Triple score, or whatever.
Thanks, Neal
