I saw some thuya burl on the website of Hardwoods of Yuma, which many of you know is home of The LumberLady. After filling in all the pertinant ordering info, I had my finger hovering over the submit button, and something told me to call, because perhaps they had a better piece I was looking for? Anyway, I called and found myself speaking to a lone employee. He gave me some shocking news.

Judith Mather, aka LumberLady, passed-away a couple months ago. Uterine cancer. The fellow on the other end of the line was quite verbose about things, and apparently all is not well in Yuma. They are liquidating, and are in probate (?) with the courts. He is computer illiterate and asked me to tell this to the forums, and would everyone be patient and they'll get the orders out.

If you are willing to wait a couple-to-three weeks for your order, they will offer some great deals - but you have to call it in.

Life is funny, but sad sometimes. Lumberlady was good to us.

Too bad. I've made several purchases from the Lumberlady and was always amazed at the hours she kept on the computer late in the evening. We had several slow motions email conversations at 1 in the morning. I thought she ran a good business. RIP.

Thats a terrible shame, she was a nice person to deal with and was always trying to help in every way. May God Bless her Soul.

It's strange the way human interaction works. I've never done business with The Lumberlady but always felt as if she were part of our family; and so I feel her loss too. Go figure. We're in the middle of something rather special, and I'm glad I'm old enough to recognize it. Our more youthful members I'm sure take this kind of communication for granted; but in my day the world was much more disconnected and because of that we were able to keep others at a distance. Having brought so many people so close together is perhaps the greatest unexpected benefit of the internet. How else would I have felt such loss of a person I'd never even spoken to? Amazing.

Rest Peacefully, Lumberlady. Go with God.

I hated to hear that. I've bought a good bit of wood off her and she was always easy to work with.

Found out the same thing today, I had called to try and sell some ironwood logs and got the news. She was one of the good guys. Gib

So sad.Lumberlady was a pleasure to deal with.I got some great burl from her. She'll be missed.

Thanks for the update, Higgy. Judy's passing is a very sad occasion for me. I bought most of my wood from her, and will really miss her. She has been for sure one of the sweetest folks I have had the pleasure of dealing and talking with. My sincere condolences go out to Judy's family.

I went by her place and bought some snakewood yesterday, the guy running the place seemed pretty overwelmed. He said that they may shut down for a couple of weeks to get inventory due to the estate being in probate. They do still have tons of great wood though, I was like a kid in a candy store. Frank
