Here's an interesting combo with a knife from a company I've never heard of, here are the specs.

An AbelBlade Knife can *

Cut kindling for a life-saving fire
Cut a fallen snag
Cut flyline that has become wrapped around your legs while wading
Cut stuck anchor lines
Stab an attacking mountain lion

Not only can an AbelBlade Knife do those things, they have!

If you fish, hike, boat, hunt, bird watch or just walk in the woods, you absolutely, positively should carry a good knife. It's the one item in this catalog that can save your life in an emergency.

Ours is the finest, fastest, easiest, sharpest, hardest-working tool you will ever own. It's large enough to do the job, yet small enough and light enough to carry all the time.

The AbelBlade knife is constructed of the finest components and materials including Made in the USA high carbon, high chrome, 154CM knife grade stainless steel. It has been hardened to 60RC. The handle or frame of the knife is 6061 aircraft quality aluminum.

The blade is hollow-ground by hand.

The "liner-lock", that is, the blade-locking mechanism * of fine spring steel * can't close until you deliberately move it to the side with your thumb, thus allowing the blade to fold back. It is engineered for quick, single-handed use . . . vital when you need to hang onto a fishing rod while cutting a snarled anchor rope, cut away brush while float-tubing or cut through a streamside tangle. It's a must while camping, or on a float trip.

The heavy-duty (removable) spring steel pocket clip has been designed to fit on the outside of your shirt, pants, wading shorts or wader pocket with the knife securely inside.

This is virtually a custom knife. These knives are produced in very limited numbers in our shop in the good old USA.

Now, Feel the Difference Precision Makes!

An interesting combo, I wonder if it's worth the $315-$525 price tag?

If your interested here's a link to their home page,(I have no affiliation with this company and can't vouch for the quality of their product) I just post the link as an FYI.click me

They make great fly reels, the pliers are supposed to be rather nice but don't know about the knife.

Considering you could buy the equivalent or better for less than half the price, I'd have to say No.

I think the copy in that ad is geared toward high-end fly fishing folk who may not be knifenuts.

"Stab an attacking mountain lion"

I imagine the lion will appreciate having something he can pick his teeth with afterwards..

For a folder with 154CM blade and aluminum handles? Better get an MoD, there are the same materials and you can spare a few bucks.
Of course, you can get a real knife, with S30V and G-10 at half of this price.
