I have an infinatey for old wood canvas canoes.I paddle every chance I get.The other day was no exception.A perfect calm sun filled day. While out on the lake around 500 yards from me I noticed 3 Canadian geese. Two males were having a set to to see which lucky fella would mate.Quite a lot of noise they were making. Before they realized it a Bald Eagle was amounst them looking for a meal, with murder in his heart. If you are prey in this world be ever vigilant as something is looking to eat you No more noise as one of the geese was flying for his life. The eagle knocked the goose out of the air and they both tumbled to the water. The eagle then sat on the goose to drowned him. There he was sitting on the water like a duck just floating I have seen this before and have thought on it.No sense dragging a live animal to shore when you can have a drowned one that offers no resistance or fight.
By now Im getting close to the eagle he decides to leave with his meal.
Im amazed that he can lift it and fly with that heavy load but he does,And surprisingly Im not the only one watching. The eagle is hassled by 2 more trying to steal his hard won meal.
They disappear to the north,After an hour of paddling I start to run into feathers floating on the lake

After 2 more hours I find the meal spot

The Eagle let me get fairly close as I think he was full of meat

When paddling back to the launch site hours later the whole lake was covered with feathers

Nice day on the water

Looks like you had a ton of fun. Must have been pretty cool to see the Eagle do that. I haven't seen an eagle in the wild in probably 4-5 months.

I sure hope you continue to post here as spring and summer go by.

I love those wood and canvas canoes, but it just wouldn't be practical for where I live. They sure are pretty.

I've been getting out on the water once a week for the last six weeks. In fact, ten minutes ago I just got home from today's paddle. It was a beautiful day here, but my scenery was nothing like yours. :)

oh my goodness, check out your pictures I am drooling! Glad to see nice clear water and check one for the fishing pole!

Excellent pictures and cool experience getting to see the eagles! Thanks for posting!

Wow thats a surprise. I had no idea eagles would eat a large Canadian goose. I thought they stuck to fish and small game. What a sight that must've been. Nice pictures by the way you can see about 10 feet into the water on that first one.

Ahh BC drool drool, I have visited twice and other then parts of New Zealand there is nowhere more beautiful. You are very fortunate to live there.
