Here are a couple of images of a new DesRosiers knife. I'm finding that I like this knife a lot.

Integral....sweet! Beautiful lines on the handle

that is very interesting. Where did you come across it Keith?

Really like it overall. Especially the handle shape.
Would prefer the blade without the spine "hump" closest to the tip.

An un-related question. Why are so many (especially makers it seems) posting thumbnails rather than full size photos?

I agree Kevin re images.

what I note is that the handle appears to be a bit short for the overall size of the knife and would appear to be short for most users hands. I'm looking at the portion that is wood whereas as it is, the full handle size to be appropriate would include the bolster.

Good to see Adam back at it, and "with it" at that. Look forward to seeing him at Blade.

Every once in awhile I use the forums attachment feature (the reason that the images are thumbnails) instead of downloading images to my photo hosting site. I do it because I don't have unlimited storage at mypicgallery.com, and I am only allowed a limited amount of bandwidth each month for shared images.

I imagine quite a few people don't have websites, and don't have accounts with web based hosting sites, and that is why they use the attachment feature.

It's outside the box and I really dig it.

Tough to gauge handle proportions from photographs without also knowing the dimensions. From the photos, that could just as easily be a 7" blade or a 10 1/2" blade.

Keith - if this is a knife that Adam is bringing to Blade, please add it to the preview thread. Thanks for the peek.

Roger

Keith, do you have a link to Adam's website? I can't find it in my favourites anymore....I like his rustic finish bowie/chopper (IIRC, it's "adventure" grade or something)

do you also have his email?

many thanks in advance...

ya know, the more I look at this knife, the more I like it.
For itself, it's perfect.

Adam's new website is www.alaskablades.com, but he doesn't have any knife photos posted there yet. I've contacted Adam to ask when he might have a gallery area on his site and I will pass on whatever info he provides me.

I would like a Desrosiers knife, do you know the web ,mail
please

Despite having put in a good showing at Blade this year I heard that Adam may be out of the knife making business again. Rather unfortunate news if it's true, but considering the source of the information I don't have much reason to doubt it. :(

Oh crap. That would suck.

Adam's website doesn't have any infomation about his knives. The last time I contacted him, he said he waas going to be updating it, but that hasn't happened. At the bottom of each area (Home, Portfolio, About Us, etc), there is contact info given. I have no other contact info. You could try contacting ABS Mastersmith Jason Knight, as they are friends. Maybe Jason could fill you in on what Adam is doing these days.

Just to let everybody know....Adam is doing well. He stopped by my shop monday. After fishing this season a bit , then a little logging, he is taking a little side trip for a rest. Yeah, right Adam, I won't tell! He stated to me that he may make an attempt at his M.S. test.... It all depends on fishing season next year.....

I better get started if I'm going to have my 5 completed this year....
Don't want him to be the only ABS,MS here in Alaska.
But at least i've got the 'performance' part over with. Whew!

Thanks for that info, David. It is great to know that Adam is at least thinking of going for his MS. That means that he is probably planning on continuing to make knives.

Having seen quite a few of your knives, David, I think you would have no trouble passing the MS test.

I don't believe you will have any trouble at all David. Can't wait to see your five.

Well David, your info is a bit more current than mine by about 6 weeks or so and I have to note that mine was second hand, so maybe there's hope.

I wouldn't say that I know Adam, only that I've met him. I found him to be a likable, bigger than life character who happens to make some wonderfully beautiful knives that seem to be born straight from the environs in which he lives. I can't help but to wonder if this occasional change in direction from Adam isn't anything more than him tying to balance practicality (or necessity) with the things he loves to do and his sense of adventure.

Personally I hope Adam continues to make knives (maybe because my name is on his list, LOL). But even if he doesn't do it full time I hope that he at least makes a few a year as an excuse to come down to Blade, so that he can continue to share stories and those wonderfully politically incorrect video clips. ;)
