Hi everyone my names James Peterman and I'm a long time lurker of this site.
I've been a hobby bladesmith for 5 or so years now and its taken me a while to get to a level where I feel like my work is decent enough to show a distinguished group of gentleman such as on here. Here's my latest effort so take it easy on me :o:o

After sitting on the workbench for the last month and after several screwups on the fittings I finally managed to get this little blade finished up.

This piece had a few firsts for me that took a little head scratching to figure out but I think the end result came out fair. It's based upon the shape of the Thorpes falchion but not to scale with the orignal. Simply my version of a falchion I guess.
The blade is made of 150 or so layers of 1080/15n20 in a random pattern that measures 5/16" thick at the hilt with a full distal taper to the point. There is a single fuller 3/8" wide on one side of the blade and hilt and pomel were cast from brass using the lost foam method. The handle is ash covered with brown sheepskin and the sheath is 8 oz veg tan with a python belly skin inlay. Blade length is 24" and 31" overall. Point of balance is roughly 4" in front of the hilt.

Hope you folks like it and any and all comments are welcome.

That is super cool:thumbup: I like everything about that:D I bet it's hard to not take it out and do some chopping!

Now THAT'S a knife!!!! :D

Great looking Damascus and clean work.....very nice package.

Fine looking sword and sheath.
Thank you for giving us a look.
Will look forward to seeing more of your work.

What's not to like ? Great blade and sheath !

I'd slice my fingers off trying to re-sharpen that swept tip!:o

welcome!!

Nice work! Good looking damascus. I love that shaped guard!!

Glad ya'll like it :)

It was a fun and at times fustrating piece to work on that honestly I'm glad to be finished with.

WalterDavis, when I got the handle on you know I had to chop something...LOL Took it to work on some pink builders foam boards and some foam pool noodles just so I could get a feel for the balance of it.

Gak, the false clip is not far from sharp at just under a 1/16" thick. If I'm not mistaken I believe the original that I drew my inspiration from did have a sharp clip.

By far the most fun was casting the fittings. Just something about pouring molten brass thats to cool :)
